Settings for using Outlook/Hotmail SMTP via Gmail

Correct, it's not something enabling 2-step verification will fix.

If the form supported 2FA, you would enter the 2nd code at the time you set it up - it should stay authenticated for a year, assuming you don't change your password. And they would likely build in a method to re-authenticate. But that is just supposition since they don't support it. :)

Outlook.com no longer supports using an app password for email (the option to create an app password is still available but it is only for Xbox because it doesn't support oAuth2. App passwords won't work in email.)

Well, please a bit more info about Gmailify (which at first consideration, I don’t want, but seems I will have to have. I do not want to have to take my e-mails on my cell phone and deal with the tiny screen and tiny keyboard too tiny for my finders, I hate that). 

Is Gmailify available ONLY via an app on a cell phone, and from what I see, only on Android (I happen to have Android)? How does it work? Does it engage generally with my Gmail and Hotmail accounts? That is, once set up on Android, does it function across platforms, as in does it also affect in the same way how my gmail from desktop computer online sends under a Hotmail alias? Or do I have no choice but to stop using my direct gmail account from a desktop computer, or from a browser on the phone, I must use the e-mail app instead, rather than merely set things up on the app but continue as usual from my desktop computer?

Let me try to be more clear. If I set it up on Android, it will certainly work if I use that app on Android to send via a Hotmail alias (my primary hotmail account), right? But, since the link between the accounts is set up, will it also then work when I send from my Gmail account online from my desktop computer using Firefox browser via the Hotmail alias?

Fundamental question: If I set things up with the gmailify app on Android, will sending from gmail via the Hotmail alias work from Gmail online from my desktop computer and its browser?

Re whether I pull or push the e-mails from Hotmail to Gmail, I will have to check how it is set up now. But I had to change which way it went in the past because of issues with the original direction I set it up - it was inconsistent, so unreliable. Thus, how it is set now might be necessary. 

I use a Mac. I also have an Android emulator on the Mac, and so could get Gmailify on that. If I set this up with Gmailify using that emulator, would it then work outside the emulator, in my Gmail account from my computer browser, simply because it is set up on that machine? It is not a realistic option to use it through the emulator, that emulator is VERY slow.

Thanks in advance for any answers or other input -- even though I expect they will all be negative. 

Oh, wait! All that said, I now notice, is it true that we can use Gmailify only as a subscription app!? Sure, only $6.99 for now, but I don't even want it, and if I get it, I don't want to use it, just set things up and maybe when I send from another platform, the sends will go through it to actually send.

Would any of these alternatives below accomplish the same without any subscription -- Gmailify is simply a common e-mail client, such as you can have on the desktop of a computer (but I still don't want an e-mail client). In fact, could I use the one that comes with the Mac OS, called Mail (have never used it - again, I don't want an e-mail client on the desktop)?

I ran into this exact issue. I found Gmailify to be way too heavy so I created https://sendas.email as a solution. It works by presenting a compatible SMTP server to Gmail and sending the mail through the outlook.com API (using the exact SMTP payload, no modifications).
