Outlook office 2016 keeps asking for password for my personal email but not for my company email.

Hi I have a problem where my personal email gets a login prompt after opening the outlook (2016 office version 16.0.5426.1000) and useing it for about 5 minutes. Hoewer my work email has no problems on the same app and the same PC. The difference is that my work email is company hosted and my personal is hosted on live.com by microsoft.

Both my accounts use microsoft exchange.

    Hi everybody. I can tell most of you here are much more computer savvy than I, so I'm not sure if I've tried enough fixes. All I know is that I've tried everything ChatGPT has to offer to no avail.

    What the hell is going on with Outlook? I have 2016 and this password prompt issue has been happening to me for over a year, but usually after the third or fourth try it stops fighting me and works.

    As of yesterday, 10/4/24 however, I can't log into my email using Outlook 2016 on my home PC. I can still get emails on my phone, ipad, web etc. it seems to be isolated to the software on my PC.

    I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but Midwestern USA user is making alot of sense.

    Does anyone have a silver bullet for this thing? Thanks to you all I appreciate all the brain power on this thread (no sarcasm - total sincerity here!)

    I agree with you, I've been an IT Admin for 20+ years and I haven't been able to find a way to solve this also. Really feels like Microsoft is trying to force a new business model, making your software stop working in hopes you will pay for an upgrade. They are really pushing the latest version of Outlook (new) online.

    I do not think it is "good news".

    Agreed that the full functionality of the desktop client is missing, but I'll take that any day over the password prompt that has caused issues for so many people over months.

    The fact that this is a free solution from Microsoft to support modern authentication is enough for the average user! Certainly beats paying £150 for the standalone version on each PC

    I gave up and bought a full business office '21 for a few quid. Not the o365 subscibtion. This solved it for me. Outlook 2016 is done when using Hotmail/Live/Outlook mailaccounts. A shame but true. Not worth the hassle to get it working anymore

    Unfortunately, free Outlook (new) is far behind good old desktop Outlook. It seems that it is just a PWA version of MS Outlook Web application. It is very confined in terms of UX and programmability. E.g. you even can't choose font size in message lists. Also forget about COM and macros and a lot of other things. So, if you continue to use outlook.com mail, then, since September 2024, the only option for serious work in Outlook is to purchase new versions and/or subscriptions. I do not think it is "good news".
