Mail continues to switch me to Outlook - how do I disable?

About every 2- 3weeks, the Mail app continues to automatically switch me to Outlook, without asking me. And I have to manually switch back to Mail.
I run an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 11.
I'm aware that Mail will eventually be discontinued, however, that's not for another year. I plan to use Mail for the next year, since Outlook currently is very difficult for me to use. However, Mail continually tries to suggest I switch, and then forces me to switch. This has happened over and over again for the last few months.
What can I do to disable Mail from switching me to Outlook?

2024-05-20T23:39:39+00:00 I think I might report Microsoft to the FTC fraud people. The new Outlook is a fraud. They have messed up my email at least 4 times by switching it without my permission. The new Outlook does not work with Windstream's smtp server so I can't send mail with it.
There must be a law against this in a fre country.

to DELETE a json file with address
C:\Users[!You Computer Name!]\AppData\Local\Packages\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Migration\settings.json
I delete it and prevent Windows Mail switch to Outlook.
I tried it today and it worked at least. If it fails in the future, I might replace the json with an only-read, same-name and empty file.

2024-04-22T17:24:59+00:00 Unfortunately, this dreadful "New Outlook" interferes with the operation of web based email programs like Earthlink. Even without setting up a formal relationship between the third party email client program and the "New Outlook" it simply meddles in the connection, prevents the downloading of some file attachments, and generally slows things down to a crawl. New Outlook behaves like some hacker's demon program, hovering in the background and then finding things to mess with. Who needs hackers when we have Microsoft and their buggy, nasty programs.
