    Hal,

I fixed my email about a week ago using the instructions. It worked fine until today. Now I am having the same issues. I will follow the instructions again and see how long it works. Have you known of this happening?

While working with the secretary at my church where they're running Office 2003 on Windows 10, all I had her do was copy and paste the app password that was generated into the pop-up box saying the old password was invalid. That's the pop-up that occurs every time you send/receive with Outlook. It worked first try.

Thanks very much. Not in my wildest dreams would I have been able to fix this. Just something to note that might help others: I am using Outlook 2010 and Windows 10 Pro so am a little behind the times - BUT, I had to delete my Gmail accounts in Outlook and then re-load them following the steps provided in this post. It didn't work using them as they were and entering the new APP Password. All good now. Thanks again!

For everyone wondering which versions of Outlook require and don't require App Passwords, here's a list of what's needed for which versions:

For Gmail POP, it will be necessary to create an App Password and use that password in place of your regular password when adding the account to all versions of Outlook. The reason for this is that Microsoft only updated the IMAP protocol to support OAuth, Gmail's requirement for an email app to be listed as "Secure"

For Outlook 2016 and earlier it will be necessary to create an App Password for both POP & IMAP accounts.

Outlook 2019 and later support OAuth for Gmail IMAP. With OAuth you only need the regular password. If, however, you have a Gmail POP account, an App Password WILL still be required. It's still a good idea to turn on 2-Step Verification to secure your account but it's not necessary for Outlook 2019+.
