So that I do not get missed up, going with POP3 accts....when I open gmail, select Manage accounts/Security...2 step shows ON....I click on ADD PASWORDS and a NEW 16 digit Password will be generated (it will be a different Password from the one I got for my Outlook 2016)....so for each of my gmail accts there will be a 16 digit password that I now use in My Outlook 2016 acct and a different 16 digit password I use for my pop3 2021 Outlook that I will be creating in Outlook 2016.

If this is correct, gmail will have multiple passwords for 1 for my Outlook 2016 and a different one for my 2021 Outlook accts.

Just want to be sure I understand the process...thanks

    IMAP vs POP

What Is POP & IMAP & Which One Should You Use For Your Email?

    Differences between POP3 and IMAP

Each Gmail POP account you wish to add to Outlook will require 2-Step Verification and a generated App Password on the Gmail side.

Looking at my Outlook 2016 Gmail accts, they all show POP/SMTP.....I do like things as they are...I like the way I use Outlook 2016.

You wrote when explaing IMAP "All you'll need is your user account and standard Gmail password, no 16-digit App Password is necessary." For clarity, USER ACCOUNT would be the USER NAME (or as I have always referred them to as my ID)

What would be the benefit of setting up Outlook 2021 as IMAP accts? Would New emails just load into 1 InBox? One acct set as default for sending but can chnage?

If 2021 even allows me to select to setup POP3 Acct; I opened Security and it of corse shows 2 Step Verification is ON..I would click on ADD PASSWORDS, sign into each of my Google email accts...and a NEW 16 Digit Password would be generated to enter into each email acct I create in Outlook 2021 (different from what I got and entered into my 2016 Outlook ACCT Passwords or the same 16 Digit Paaword will be displayed to use).

If you're attempting to add a Gmail IMAP account, you need nothing else, Outlook 2021 supports Oauth2 (A.K.A. Modern Authentication) for IMAP service, and Gmail thereby considers it a "Secure App". All you'll need is your user account and standard Gmail password, no 16-digit App Password is necessary.

If, OTOH, you're attempting to add a Gmail POP account, NO Outlook version supports Oauth2 for POP service, so you would need to generate and use a 16-digit App Password in this case.

    TL;DR

Outlook 2021 + Gmail IMAP = standard password

    Outlook 2021 + Gmail POP = 16-digit App Password

With your assistance I was able to perform the steps .....to configure my Installed copy of Outlook 2016 to Fetch and send emails from my 4 gmail accts...as you wrote:

"turn on 2-Step Verification and then generate an App Password. Open Outlook 2010, bring up your Gmail account in Account Settings, and replace the existing password with the 16 digit App Password you just generated."

I have now purchased a New Windows 11 laptop and a New Copy of Office that includes Outlook 2021.

As I recall, when securing the 16 digit App Password...there was nothing that alerted you to writing down, or copying that code for safe Keeping. However I did so for 3 out of the 4 gmail accts.

I know this process cannot be complicated by Google...or at least I hope so...so that when you purchase and will be using a New Outlook program on a new PC....that getting the accts in the New Installed Outlook (while the prior Outlook version is on use in another PC)to fetching & Send gmail emails.....can be accomplished. Before this google chnage all you had to do is enter your Passwords you created in a new...additional Outlook on another PC....but with this new Security....what do I do?
