I'm using the 365 subscription product version 2205 (build 15225.20204) of Outlook. It stopped working with my POP Gmail account on 6/2. On 6/3, without me having done anything, it starting working normally. This morning it stopped working again. If what you say is true, it would appear that Microsoft has been tinkering with the code and it is now broken once more.

So for me and maybe many others....there are conflicting responses within this Thread. Some have said as long as 2016 and newer has all Microsoft Updates...2 Step\Less App password is not Needed... Others are reporting with 2016 and now someone with 2019...that did not Create 2 Step\Less Secure password on or before 5/30/22...they were having No issues but withing the pass 2 days....they could no longer Connect...and had to Create 2 Step\Less Secure Password.....

So Now I wonder...what is SO with Gmail and OutLook

I have Office 2016 on one of my computers and 2019 on the other. Both had continued working until this morning, then neither one would sync with Gmail. (The email from Gmail did not explain that newer versions of Outlook would also quit syncing without 2-factor authentication.) I did the 2 simples steps of enabling 2 factor authentication and setting an app password. Sync with Gmail resumed immediately. I'm thankful for this community board which explained this simply. Previous information I had found online made it much more complicated.

I was unable to login today with:

    Microsoft® Outlook® 2021 MSO (Version 2205 Build 16.0.15225.20172) 64-bit

    on:

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 21H2
    Installed on ‎8/‎7/‎2021
    OS build 19044.1706
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

Generating the App Password resolved the issue.

    Thank you.

    K.B.

Outlook 2016 has been OK for the last year or so, I don't believe it was when it was first introduced, but I'm not sure of that. Folks that have kept Outlook 2016 updated should have no issues. Google has been threatening to remove the "Less Secure" switch for some time now and they finally decided to do so.
