Outlook 2016 will not take gmail after end of May 2022

And that is the reason why you supply MANY different methods for the second factor. I use 2-Step verification on my Gmail account and, beyond the fact that my cellphone is an Android and, as you point out, the first thing Google does is light up the phone, I also have it set to text two different cellphones and voice call a landline.  Next, they allow Authenticator apps.  Google offers its own, I personally prefer the Microsoft Authenticator. Google will also send you a list of 10 single-use codes, if you wish. You should set up as many of these and you can so an issue with any single method won't bring the whole world to a stop.

I do not know why your phone notifications aren't showing up, that's a Google support issue. Yes, if you disable 2-step verification, the App Password will no longer work, and you'll lose access form Outlook.

Good article on the Gmail Rebellion! Thanks for the answer on needing a separate app password for each computer - I'm now back in business on both machines.

It now seems that with their 2 step verification, it seems I can check mail on gmail.com from a computer web browser only if I also have my mobile phone with me - is that correct? What happens if I loose the phone?

Thanks for the quick reply and sorry about the double post. While I can still access gmail from my desktop Outlook 2010, I can no longer login from my web browser at gmail.com. It's asking for the 2 step verification saying to tap "yes" on the phone notification, but I'm no longer receiving that notification on my phone - it was working earlier. So I'm shut out completely from accessing the gmail settings?

If I do get back in and then disable to 2 step verification, does that then undo the ability to access gmail from my Outlook 2010?
