I also do not have Microsoft 365...using Outlook 2016. I have done some research on the Web but the articles I have read are too complicated for me to understand and make the changes. I am hoping there is a Vert Detailed article...for DUMMY's like me...that will hold my hand and walk me thru the chnages I must follow so that come 5/30/22...I can continue to use Outlook 2016 and access my Gmail accts with it.

Are you writing with Outlook 2016...you ONLY need to activate 2 Factor Auth...and you do not need to chnage the PASSWORD to the New 16 digit Password??????

I hope that article is out there....

If you still have office 2016, uninstall it and install 365. Or use the method in this article - hhttps://www.poremsky.com/office/remove-office-licenses-windows/ - to remove the 2016 license. Then sign in with the office 365 subscription - but if you have the 2016 license in the Microsoft account, it might pick it up. In that case, you will need to uninstall/reinstall.

    Hi Diane

    Thanks for your answer.

I have a current 365 subscription (since 2016) and yes have all current updates. But It is still running with outlook 2016.

I also do have "allow less secure apps" turned on for my gmail, otherwise I can't receive my mail in outlook.

I could set up the 2 step authentication, but I would also prefer to update Outlook anyway.

Hence my querying how do I change my outlook to the 2019 or later version?

    Thanks

    Jo

    Hello Jo

I'm Diane, an Office Apps & Services MVP specializing in Outlook, and I’m happy to help you today.

If you have an office 365 subscription, and all updates are installed, you don't need to do anything.

Google is removing the option for "Allow less secure apps" - you either need to use a current version of outlook or enable 2-step authentication.
