Outlook does not reconnect after waking from sleep mode

Hi,

When I leave my computer idle so it enters sleep mode outlook does not reconnect to server and cannot update the latest emails. Closing the program down and starting again means that outlook will not even open. The only way I can get outlook to open up again properly is to restart the PC.

Is there a better fix than this, as it is rather annoying than to have to restart all the time.

I can confirm I have the latest updates for windows 11 and Microsoft office programs.

Thanks

Thanks so much for involving yourself in this craziness. I appreciate it, and I appreciate you.

While I am a Dell user (XPS 15 9570), I don't run ExpresConnect. I hope those who do will find your tack useful and effective.

Again, thank you. I promise to share whatever I find out here.

I have been troubleshooting this as a license issue as our group uses individual licenses, based on email addresses. I used the steps below to strip out license information from the Office product and it will prompt for re-licensing information upon opening Outlook. It has helped in several instances.

    1. Reset the Office activation state.  So, it clears all credentials.

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/activation/reset-office-365-proplus-activation-state

Download the UI Version and run it – this will clear out the licensing information for the product

    1. Before opening any office product, add the following registry keys:

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Use ExcludeLastKnownGoodUrl to prevent Outlook from using the last known good AutoDiscover URL

Configure one of the following registry subkeys as follows:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office<x.0>\Outlook\Autodiscover
    DWORD: ExcludeLastKnownGoodUrl Value: 1

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office<x.0>\Outlook\Autodiscover
    DWORD: ExcludeLastKnownGoodUrl Value: 1

    1. Open Outlook and authenticate to re-license the Office applications

I've struggled with the same issue for months (Office 365, Win 11, wired desktop PC) and what I read seems to lean towards mostly network issues after wake from sleep.

This morning I tried running a couple of commands from the CMD prompt (i.e. Start -> cmd).

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

Basically these disconnect/reconnect your network connection.

My Outlook was already open and unable to get new mail before doing these commands, but once completed new mail came to inbox.

I agree we as customers of Microsoft Office should not have to deal with this type of issue, but for now I'm going to write a batch script to do these commands for me until it gets resolved.

    Hope someone finds this useful.

The interesting thing is that in my case, it started out as an issue after wake from sleep but progressed to it disconnecting randomly though out the day. I can be working along and notice that emails have stopped arriving and sent messages have been queued up in the Outbox...

I have the same issue. It's becoming progressively worse and more frequent.

I will try the two solutions suggested above by you and Jim_111.

Fingers crossed Microsoft can resolve this so we all stop being so disrupted by it.
