Outlook does not reconnect after waking from sleep mode

Hi,

When I leave my computer idle so it enters sleep mode outlook does not reconnect to server and cannot update the latest emails. Closing the program down and starting again means that outlook will not even open. The only way I can get outlook to open up again properly is to restart the PC.

Is there a better fix than this, as it is rather annoying than to have to restart all the time.

I can confirm I have the latest updates for windows 11 and Microsoft office programs.

Thanks

Thanks so much for involving yourself in this craziness. I appreciate it, and I appreciate you.

While I am a Dell user (XPS 15 9570), I don't run ExpresConnect. I hope those who do will find your tack useful and effective.

Again, thank you. I promise to share whatever I find out here.

I installed the latest 34.23.7168 version of Intel® Killer™ Performance Suite package a few days ago and it finally resolved the waking from sleep problems I have experienced for the past year with a Dell XPS running Windows 11 despite previously trying many of the suggestions in this forum.

I've struggled with the same issue for months (Office 365, Win 11, wired desktop PC) and what I read seems to lean towards mostly network issues after wake from sleep.

This morning I tried running a couple of commands from the CMD prompt (i.e. Start -> cmd).

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

Basically these disconnect/reconnect your network connection.

My Outlook was already open and unable to get new mail before doing these commands, but once completed new mail came to inbox.

I agree we as customers of Microsoft Office should not have to deal with this type of issue, but for now I'm going to write a batch script to do these commands for me until it gets resolved.

    Hope someone finds this useful.

Turning off Wi-Fi and Restarting (cycle Wi-Fi off/on in tray) fixed it for me and sure ipconfig release renew would do the same.

New info: When Outlook would not connect after being idle for some time, I noticed when checking Outlook's connection status (hold down CTRL key and right click on Outlook icon in tray) it listed an authentication error with my mail accounts. Keeping that in mind, I did find something which seems to have helped when trying to solve a problem with another app "iCloud" having authentication issue. It has to so with a prioritization engine for Killer wi-fi. Most folks in this thread seems to have Dell's which may use Killer wi-fi, especially the XPS line. There is a setting in the Killer Control center to turn this off. I did not have the Killer Control center on my machine so went to Dell's web site under support (Drivers and Downloads) and installed the Killer controller center.   I think it was listed under additional apps.  Once installed you can navigate to "Settings" menu item bottom left and turn off the Killer prioritization engine. Once I did that iCloud worked and my Outlook connection problem after idling went away.

Hope this helps other Killer Wi-Fi users experiencing the same problem.

I have a similar problem.... using a Dell 5820 running Windows 10 and MS Office 2021. When I wake the computer from sleep Office isn't running and if I try to restart it (click on task bar icon) the busy cursor shows for awhile and then nuth'n.

Solution: I discovered that if I run the task manager (good old ctl-alt-delete) and find Outlook in the list of tasks, that it's in some odd state. I click on the Outlook task, and select end task. This kills off the zombie Outlook. I then start Outlook up again and it's all sweetness and light. That's better'n having to reboot, but not much better.
