Outlook does not reconnect after waking from sleep mode

Hi,

When I leave my computer idle so it enters sleep mode outlook does not reconnect to server and cannot update the latest emails. Closing the program down and starting again means that outlook will not even open. The only way I can get outlook to open up again properly is to restart the PC.

Is there a better fix than this, as it is rather annoying than to have to restart all the time.

I can confirm I have the latest updates for windows 11 and Microsoft office programs.

Thanks

Thanks so much for involving yourself in this craziness. I appreciate it, and I appreciate you.

While I am a Dell user (XPS 15 9570), I don't run ExpresConnect. I hope those who do will find your tack useful and effective.

Again, thank you. I promise to share whatever I find out here.

So I am running Office 365 for enterprise.

I have 1 IMAP account and the other 2 are exchange.

As I stated there is no issue opening up office once I have restarted the PC, but I am looking for a fix that doesn't involve restarting my PC everytime I have left my PC to go to sleep so I can use outlook.

I have reinstalled outlook from scratch twice already and the same issue presents itself again.

I have also upgrade the OS from windows 10 to 11 and the problem exsisted on both version of the OS and outlook.

So I am looking for a solution that will stop the crashing of the program after the PC has entered sleep mode.

If you are running a Dell laptop with a docking station, then this thread might help:

Outlook and Teams have connection issues after coming out of sleep mode.

Problem seems to be related to a driver and only occurs when Ethernet and WLAN are active at the same time.

I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft today and touch wood we seem to have resolved the issue. The steps to take are as follows:

    • Go to 'Add or remove programs', look for any 'Microsoft 365' and 'Office' apps. Uninstall any 'Office' or 'Microsoft 365' app other than 'Microsoft 365 Apps for Business'. Then go Modify on 'Microsoft 365 Apps for Business' app and run Quick Repair. Then shut down PC.
    • Open Outlook see if the issue happens again. If it does, then close Outlook and try to open the Outlook in a Safe Mode: Open Outlook in safe mode (microsoft.com) . If Outlook does not crush/froze on safe mode, then there could be an add-in or 3rd party software that is trying to connect with Outlook and conflicts. When you run Outlook in a safe mode it disconnects Outlook from any other apps and add-ins.
    • Go to Outlook > File> Options> Add-ins> Made sure that all add-ins other than Microsoft's default removed. Restart PC.
    • If issue is still happening for some users, ask them to install SARA Tool: About the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant , scroll down, go to Download. One it is installed it will prompt your options, pick 'Outlook stops responding or freezes'. Then follow the tool there by next. It will perform some diagnostics to see if it finds any issue in Outlook and fix it for you.
    • If none of the above works, I would suggest clicking on the button on the top right corner in Outlook to move it to New Outlook mode. See it that helps.
    • If not, uninstall Office apps and reinstalled back.
    • If still not working, then we need to try creating new Windows Profile on the PC.
