i do not use 2 factor authentification

a few days ago I called tech support from aol and mentioned to them this issue. while they were unable to resolve it - they did say something that I thought was utter BS but may be true. he told me that since i was using a completely new computer and i never access my email via www.aol.com from any computer but rather thru outside party email apps - in my case Outlook - that their security would not recognize my computer. he told me that after a few days of usage from the same computer - that the computer would then be recognized associated with my email address and it would then activate? and this is what seems to have happened because i set up the new computer on 1-14-23 and i was able to start generating passwords on 1-19-23. and again this morning as well. I am not an IT specialist but this seems at least plausible although at the time i thought he was just trying to get me off the phone.

I bought a laptop on Dec 31 and was able to generate a pw in AOL for my Verizon account then. But the laptop was buggy and I had to replace it - I had always thought the generated passwords were one-time-use only so I didn't keep track of them, and now AOL won't generate a new one for Outlook. This has been going on all week.

If you still have the old laptop, you can use a program reported earlier called mailpv.exe to retrieve stored passwords.
