AOL Generate password Sorry, this feature is not available right now!

How do I get my Outlook mail working again if I cannot generate a new password. I accidently added a folder under the inbox and when I tried to delete I could not. I then lost connection to AOL and could not connect to pull my email. I went to generate a password but I keep getting this feature not available right now.

How can I get my Outlook to pull my email from AOL again?

David

    Amy,

If your Mom is using Microsoft/Outlook then I would suggest running scanpst.exe which is a Microsoft program that correct problems in the outlook PST file .

    My situation:

Mom does not have 2FA turned on but some time ago, I had to start using the app password.

Got new machine last weekend - “feature not available.” Found a mention on a thread about checking your email from that machine via web interface for a few days. AOL will recognize the location and the generate password will work. I tried yesterday from work and couldn’t get a password. Today from her machine, it worked and I got the mailbox set up. The sync is now throwing errors, but we are having power issues in our area and other sites having problems so I will wait to troubleshoot. Sharing in case this helps someone.

There are three things at play here that caused this issue. AOL's code to generate an "app password" which can be accessed from http://password.aol.com was broken or taken down and generating an error from mid-January 2023 thru the end of February 2023. There may have been other times in the past or will be periods in the future like this.

For legacy verizon.net email users, when Verizon left the email service provider business, they purchased AOL to take on that piece of the business. Verizon/AOL agreed to maintain the verizon.net email addresses and point them to aol.com so users did not have to change their email addresses.

Then came AOL's 2FA update, which again, MS/Office and MS/Outlook doesn't support. True at least for Office/2019 and Office/365 and likely all versions.

If you changed your AOL password or invoked 2FA, then the app password which was saved in your Outlook profile stopped working.

To fix this, you'll need to disable 2FA on AOL and generate a new app password using the above AOL url link,

When you do this, this is the password you will use in Outlook. You will use your new AOL password is you want to use AOL's web-based email screens. I strongly suggest you save this password in a secure location for the futue

Last caveat ... AOL mail with 2FA works fine provided you use its AOL web interface; however, this does not support the off-line use of your email like outlook does.

    Good luck and God Bless.

    Randy.
