Live.com login activity and a warning "Unusual activity detected"

I could not find a more direct forum than Outlook to ask this question, if it is not the right forum my apologies.

I received an e-mail alert that indicated unusual activity detected on my live.com account. When I checked the recent activity, I found two IP numbers. One matched my external IP and the other did not. I changed my password right away and checked the activity again. To my surprise, the other IP and its variants were appearing along with my external IP number at the same intervals.

I tried to find the IP number roots and ironically, it pointed at Microsoft. I am really confused! Can someone explain the source of this IP and whether I need to do anything to stop it from occurring.? I use Edge browser and I log in with my account. When it syncs, does it use a separate IP from my IP number?

Note: I am not using the Outlook mail client. I check my mail using two different mail clients on two different computers at the same location that share the same external IP number. On occasion, I check my live.com e-mail online using a Web browser.

    Thank you, Don. Yes, that account, or e-mail address is used elsewhere. As I have time to put into this, I may gradually migrate my other uses to another account. I see no benefit in seeing an account but not being able to use it. It seems that Microsoft is fading live.com accounts anyway as I have not been able to find a way to create a new account on live.com.

    This much entanglement of accounts is not healthy in my opinion. The only benefit may be to Microsoft as it ensnares users in sneaky ways. My opinion of Microsoft has come down quite a bit in the last year or so, this mixup they caused being one of the reasons. Now, if that does not make Microsoft shake in its boots I don't know what will!!

    I feel taken advantage of. That is not a good feeling.

    Your Microsoft account is still there and usable. Please read the article I posted a link to.

    This will take some time, but you should contact people with whom you exchange email and tell them to use another address, that the @live address is dead.

    You should also go to websites that have the @live address for your contact info to change that address.

    Don, thank you for staying with me. First, that second alias domain name is keptlight.com, my own domain and Web site.

    Second, when I send an e-mail to my former e-mail account at live.com, I get a message that says:

    Address not found
    Your message wasn't delivered to -----@live.com because the address couldn't be found, or is unable to receive mail.
    The response from the remote server was:
    550 5.5.0 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable (S2017062302). [DM6NAM10FT004.eop-nam10.prod.protection.outlook.com]

    I can log in to my Microsoft account in two ways. One, using my academic e-mail address, and I can also log in using my address on keptlight.com which I entered as an alias on live.com. But not using live.com e-mail address.

    It truly should not be this complicated. I am really surprised that Microsoft introduced the level of complexity to e-mail accounts for no reason that is visible from the user end.

    OK. The @live.com email address is gone/not recoverable.

    You have the Microsoft account under the keptlight address and also the @outlook.com alias. With 2 ways to login, that account is safe.

    I'm not sure why you're considering closing the Microsoft account. Read through this article for warnings and, in effect, reasons you might not want to close, including services or products that are or might be connected to it.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Don. However, I think I will let that account go dormant. If anyone has any problems reaching me because they cannot send an e-mail to that address, I am sure they will find ways to reach me. Creating another alias and adding it to my original live.com account will probably make things even more convoluted. I am ready to quit with enough time loss and inconvenience.

    Is the live.com option totally eliminated, just curious?

    In your screenshot what's the domain of the "good" address. I only see ***nt.com ?

    Careful... we need to say whether we're talking about the Microsoft account or the @live.com account. You are using the Microsoft account to sign-in here and possibly for other things- other software you've purchased, Microsoft Office, a game, etc.

    When you try to send mail to the @live.com email address, what error message do you see?
