Microsoft Outlook Storage Message - reducing from 15GB to 5GB

Hi, starting today a pink bar at the top of my outlook page stating 'From February 1st, you'll need more storage to send or receive emails.' then provides 2 links to 'Manage Storage' & 'Get More Storage'. There is a second window bottom left hand side stating in red font 'Microsoft Storage' '14.6GB used of 5GB (292%)' 'Get More Storage'. What is going on? I've had this account for 10 + years.

that's lame! attachments are APART of the emails. dumb. just a way to gouge to people. very sad. 15gb of mail storage should encompass any and all part of the emails.

That snapshot you posted only shows 1 storage. It's a glitch. The new policy should show 2 storage, Microsoft Storage (5 GB limit) and Mail Storage (15 GB limit). Outlook attachments total size now affects your lower 5 GB limit. Yeah I know it is confusing. Try signing out, clearing browser cache and signing back in. If you still don't see 2 sections in General - Storage option, wait a few more days.

Mine also says the same. But it says 5gb storage versus 15 gb storage. I deleted EVERYTHING in my outlook drive and it still says my email is full at 4.9gb of 5gb. Where is the remaining 10gb if I deleted all outlook drive items?? I also have no microsoft apps.

    Dear Microsoft / Sajjad747,

Please explain above. I received the pink bar message today.

    It doesn't make any sense.

I have had my Hotmail address since 1998. What's going on?

    Thank-you.

    Yep,

I got same confusing storage banner. And Yep I really don't need one drive, just a money making scam.

I chatted with Microsoft Support and they assured me that my email was safe and my email had 50 GB and to ignore the pink banner they had an error and were fixing it.

I got him to send transcript of my chat.

Biggest problem, microsoft (for all the money they make with ads on my email); has dis-continued its telephone help support. Cheap bastards, they are just trying to sucker you in then trap you by holding your own data (which they see as their data) hostage for subscription service, aka lets monetize our ad clients.

Then they make it hard to copy (ie backup) your emails to your own computer.

They certainly make enough money from ads and spam, to service keeping your email, but they just want more.

So people will probably just start to leave for other email services. And heir ad money will go down. They would be better off just making it really good and simple and guarantee your storage., and they would get more email business.
