Another article describes setting the default filter in Outlook to Unread under View Settings. I did this and found that after doing so, I was no longer able to view Read messages, they just didn't appear in the inbox after setting the Inbox filter to All.
What I'm looking for is a setting that will make Unread the default filter setting, but still allow me to see Read messages when switching the filter to All or Read. Does this setting exist?

It's 2024 and still no default unread feature?!?!
This is such a basic feature, I'm glad I'm not the only one stunned to learn that Microsoft can't do this! I'm a Google user but have to use Microsoft at work, and Outlook is particularly inferior compared to Google. I understand I can click the "Unread" button to see unread messages, but I have to do that every single time, and then it hides everything else, so it is definitely not efficient.
I've upvoted the simple request to be able to pin unread at the top of your inbox and hope that it's an option some day.
Mike, this capability was always in Outlook, but one should NOT need to do this if Outlook simply allowed the default inbox view to be Unread.
Thanks Mike. That is a decent solution. I just wish Microsoft could make things more intuitive like Google seems to have no problem doing. Take some tips from them and then fix the horror show you call "Onedrive."
See my previous post. Right click on your Search Folder, and you can now create a search filter for "Unread", then Add to Favorites.
