New company took over and outlook now having issues

I was with Centurylink. They forced me to have Brightspeed. I was assured nothing would be affected. They were wrong. I have never used webmail and have always had my webmail forwarded to my Outlook that I had bought. Since Brightspeed has taken over I am having issues. My Outlook 2021 from Microsoft keeps synchronizing and I my emails either won't go out or take forever to come in or go out and it keeps saying synchronizing folders and I have no clue what that means and why today it started doing that. Brightspeed is no help. Centurylink helped me with the POP info to put in and swore there would be no issues but no longer will talk to me since they said I am a Brightspeed customer and I can't talk to anyone with Microsoft. I don't know why this suddenly started today and Brightspeed had no answers and basically just said good luck. I have work emails that I forward to my outlook so I can print to do my teleworking. It's been over 3 hours and I don't even know why synchronizing is or why it's doing this. HELP. I need it to stop doing that and for my emails to come and go quickly like they were doing yesterday. Any ideas or help anyone can give me.

Doesn't work. I have embarqmail which uses the CenturyLink server settings noted by Diane. The embarq account was working fine up to last week then it started prompting for password. I visited century link and was able to log in to my account on a browser with no problems. I deleted the embarq email from outlook and tried to add the account with the recommended POP3 settings.

Cannot add the account, keeps prompting for the password. Restarted the machine and attempted again and nor resolution.

So if anyone has solved this issue please let me know.

    Diane,

I have been having the same issue as Janice since Centurylink changed their email server. Nothing but issues. Very frustrating. I am using Outlook 2016 Professional Plus and IMAP settings. I tried the registry hack above - that did not help. I tried disabling all sync but the inbox and outbox - that helps, but I would like to have all folders sync. Reading the Sync Issues folder, I am getting hundreds of sync errors. Here is an example:

18:26:00 Error synchronizing message 'RE: Come be a survivor!'

Do you have any ideas what is going on. Also when CenturyLost changed servers I lost my Sent folder contents. They just disappeared. Any idea how to get those back?

    Thanks,

    Doug

Thank you for posting this. I will get with my nephew as I am scared to mess with this kind of thing and since now you don't get discs...which I miss...I have not clue what the original registry key was. The thing is that I never had any Outlook issues until Centurylink did that upgrade and they blame Outlook for the problem. Well, if my Outlook was fine before the upgrade, it is clear their upgrade totally messed things up. I now have a POP and IMAP account with both getting any email that comes in and before she created the POP...nothing was coming in or taking days but the syncing never stopped which I also didn't have until Centurylink did their infamous upgrade. I'll see when my nephew can come over and try this.

If the IMAP is syncing all the time - start with this registry key - Microsoft is investigating an issue where Outlook doesn't close properly when you have an IMAP account in your profile and this can cause Outlook to have sync issues. There is a registry key to use as a workaround. If you don't want to edit the registry, I have a ready-to-use registry file available https://www.slipstick.com/doit/AllowLOGOUT.reg

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\IMAP

    DWORD: AllowLOGOUTWithoutOK

    Value: 1

If you've already set it, do you have any sync issues? Look in the Sync issues folder in the Folder navigation pane (Ctrl+6 to open it if the buttons are on the bottom). If your Outlook navigation buttons are in a vertical bar on the left, click the bottom icon in the vertical bar and choose Folder. (To switch back to the Mail pane, click the Mail button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+1. )

Errors will be in red text in the Sync Issues folder.

One option is to change the IMAP sync settings to only sync the inbox - the other folders will sync when you open them.

Go to Send/Receive settings (Ctrl+Alt+S) - select the send and receive group then click Edit. Uncheck get unread count for subscribed folders. Under received items, set it to only check inbox - you can include sent items if you want, but opening the folder will trigger a sync.

It truly has been a mess and Centurylink wants to blame Outlook and microsoft for the issue but they are not the issue. The problems all started on 24 OCT when Centurylink did that "upgrade" to emails and bam...everything was a mess. So my situation so far is this,...I actually have a lady who I can call and will call again today...she never stays on long with me but I do have her number. She created a 2nd email for me in Outlook with POP3...emails starting coming in as they should BUT they come in to BOTH accounts as one has (1) behind it...which is the POP account. Centurylink somehow changed my POP when they did the upgrade to IMAP which I also have. She helped me create folders in the POP but nothing will transfer over AND every time I close out my Outlook and come back up the next day, every folder in IMAP is back to being in all caps even though I changed them to small letters and the one folder I deleted under the deleted file, keeps showing back up. She was supposed to get with someone to find out why she can't copy and move the folders in the IMAP account into my POP account but never got back with me. She said we would then delete the IMAP account. At this point, since I have emails coming in as they should, I really rather do nothing even though I am frustrated and aggravated having emails show up under each account...IMAP and the POP. Centurylink has lied about fixing the Outlook issue. It is not fixed and whatever they did, they really messed up Outlook accounts. They should be ashamed. Though I can't stand having 2 accounts in my Outlook, I'm just happy to be even getting emails. And it still says syncing all the time. They have no idea what they are doing. Go to Centurylink page and submit a ticket and keep messaging them on fb. Eventually, you will get someone to call you but you have to keep at it...no guarantee that they can fix your Outlook though. Centurylink lied about the upgrade when they said it would not affect your Outlook.
