New Outlook mode - Light/Dark background setting

Where can I find the below setting when I'm in the "New Outlook" mode:

If you prefer, you can disable dark mode so that the message window is always white when using the black theme. The icons to switch dark mode on or off are disabled when you disable dark mode.

  • In Outlook, go to File > Options.
  • On the General page, look for Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office.
  • Set the Office Theme to Black and select the check box next to Never change the message background color.
  • Select OK.

    I've got the same issue, I can change to light background for individual messages by clicking the sun symbol

    And the background goes white

    But I have to do this for EVERY email, even reopening the same one it'll default back to a dark background.

    It's feasible as the white background in dark mode works, so shouldn't be too hard to make a setting of Light Theme/Dark Theme AND Light Background/Dark Background as default settings.

    Chiming in for this feature request to customize dark border with light reading pane.

    This falls under accessibility, as readability varies with the individual.

    I agree. New Outlook needs "Never change the message background color" option like old Outlook.

    100%. I regret changing to the New Outlook because of this setting alone. Hate reading messages in dark mode, but an overall light mode is tough on the eyes.

    That is in the "old" outlook. That entire menu system is not available in the New Outlook, and the "Never change the message background color" is not an available option. But that is exactly what we are wanting to have in the New Outlook.

    There are way to many simple features that are wrong or not carried over from the old Outlook that bother me. I'm going to just switch back. It certainly looked better for the most part but this and it just seems slower.
