Agreed! This is the only reason for me not changing to the New Outlook. Having to press the button for "Toggle light background" every time you write a new or open an existing message is terribly annoying. Microsoft, please add "Never change the message background color" to the New Outlook.

It seems there was a misunderstanding of the original question. Secondly, I want to share my personal experience. I recently switched to the 'New Outlook' and after some Googling, I ended up on this thread. Now, I find myself Googling how to revert back to the old Outlook. I miss certain features like the indenting of replies and the ability to change the color of my responses. I find indenting helpful for better email conversation tracking, and using different colors for my replies helps me differentiate them easily. Additionally, it would be great if Microsoft could align the Windows 11 Fluent design with Recertify11 by default. This would provide a more cohesive experience. These are just my personal thoughts and suggestions. I hope you all have a pleasant day/evening ahead.

Jumping in here to mirror the request of others in hopes this pushes the dev team to get this update prioritized. I can't use the New Outlook until we're able to utilize a Dark Theme with a Light Reading Pane (by default, not toggled per message).

I sympathise with others posting in this thread as I find this issue frustrating as well. The 'New Outlook' has lost many features that were available in the original Outlook application which makes it feel like an incomplete/rushed solution. To add further frustration, it is possible in 'New Outlook' to use the dark theme and have a light background when composing a message by using the below 'toggle' button but I do not want to do this EVERY I write a new email. It also doesn't work when reading emails. Can Microsoft please make this toggle a default option in the settings for 'New Outlook' for all emails?
