Hi,
I have a free hotmail account (15 GB storage limit) and am within this storage limit. I also have a Ondrive account (comes automatically with your hotmail account). The storage capacity is 5GB and is unused.
A few weeks ago this empty Onedrive account became full, because my Outlook attachments popped up there and instantly took my storage capacity to over the 5GB limit (twice as much).
Since then I haven't been able to receive or send emails at all, even though my hotmail storage is well within the storage limit.
Technical support at Microsoft claim that there is a bug that their engineers have been trying to fix. Not sure though this is accurate, as I've read nothing about it in the news. On Microsoft's website they say they changed storage rules in Feb 2023, so that Onedrive automatically captures your hotmail storage capacity as well. Effectively, this is a reduction of your hotmail storage capacity from 15GB to 5GB. Pay up or delete your emails is what this is about.
Anyone else facing this problem? Any ideas what is really causing this? A technical bug or an attempt by Microsoft to force hotmail account holders to pay a monthly subscription?
Any help or feedback much appreciated.

I have had the same problem, deleted and deleted stuff, could not receive or send mail, soo wrong. now just under the so-called limit or have to buy. These days every company etc thinks we are Mrs Gates-loads of money and just Pay, Pay, Buy, Buy. Doesn't Bill Gates have enough money, still needs more??????
Seems like this company was a lot better when gates was the CEO. Since he retired, the new CEO turned it into ****.
Microsoft obviously thought it necessary to to remove two emails that are in the public domain!! Seriously??!! What a silly bunch.
The two emails can be found on the Microsoft Investor Relations team page and the other is at the bottom of the BBC webpage.

As far as going with Gmail, a friend of mine has been having similar issues with her Gmail account, so I'm not sure how far widespread this issue is. I am totally against paying for this kind of service, so we definitely need to find a viable alternative!
Thank you for the information ANS10. I will definitely get on with writing to Microsoft, BBC and MP as this is effectively a hostage situation! Forcing people to buy what they previously had for free is unacceptable.
I also have a Sky.com account and am having to use this for the more important email sources, which of course means changing account details. I may just move to them permanently over time.
