Hi,
I have a free hotmail account (15 GB storage limit) and am within this storage limit. I also have a Ondrive account (comes automatically with your hotmail account). The storage capacity is 5GB and is unused.
A few weeks ago this empty Onedrive account became full, because my Outlook attachments popped up there and instantly took my storage capacity to over the 5GB limit (twice as much).
Since then I haven't been able to receive or send emails at all, even though my hotmail storage is well within the storage limit.
Technical support at Microsoft claim that there is a bug that their engineers have been trying to fix. Not sure though this is accurate, as I've read nothing about it in the news. On Microsoft's website they say they changed storage rules in Feb 2023, so that Onedrive automatically captures your hotmail storage capacity as well. Effectively, this is a reduction of your hotmail storage capacity from 15GB to 5GB. Pay up or delete your emails is what this is about.
Anyone else facing this problem? Any ideas what is really causing this? A technical bug or an attempt by Microsoft to force hotmail account holders to pay a monthly subscription?
Any help or feedback much appreciated.

We have the same problem with a hotmail account, I added the account to the 365 family account, so now I have 1 Tb of storage and only 0,5 ,Gb used, but the problem with the hotmail still persists:
However I can send emails, and it seems spam emails are received.
In a Microsoft store in London I was advised to call Microsoft hotline, they could supposedly fix this by configuration of the account. However, following the instructions in the phone menu, one ends up with the message to check the Microsoft site, so no personal contact is possible. On the Microsoft site I did not find any hint how to solve the problem, all dead end advice that leads nowhere.
Since this seems to be a widespread problem, I wonder why no-one from Microsoft offered an answer or a solution.
I've had the same recently, it doesn't help that I receive so much spam lately.
I am so mad - I have had this email for over 20 years and at times had over 10 thousand unread emails and neve once had a storage problem until this past Wednesday! what the hell Microsoft!!
I switched all over to Google [it was easy, a couple of clicks, but I can't remember how I did it? Maybe the '
'share' button?] but then Google told me I was over my limit. Conspiracy? In the end, I went in one night in front of the TV and just deleted things. Took several hours. Now I am down to 99% and my email works again....? I have gone into settings and disconnected ONE Drive from my computer.
