Problems with hotmail and onedrive storage?

Hi,

I have a free hotmail account (15 GB storage limit) and am within this storage limit. I also have a Ondrive account (comes automatically with your hotmail account). The storage capacity is 5GB and is unused.

A few weeks ago this empty Onedrive account became full, because my Outlook attachments popped up there and instantly took my storage capacity to over the 5GB limit (twice as much).

Since then I haven't been able to receive or send emails at all, even though my hotmail storage is well within the storage limit.

Technical support at Microsoft claim that there is a bug that their engineers have been trying to fix. Not sure though this is accurate, as I've read nothing about it in the news. On Microsoft's website they say they changed storage rules in Feb 2023, so that Onedrive automatically captures your hotmail storage capacity as well. Effectively, this is a reduction of your hotmail storage capacity from 15GB to 5GB. Pay up or delete your emails is what this is about.

Anyone else facing this problem? Any ideas what is really causing this? A technical bug or an attempt by Microsoft to force hotmail account holders to pay a monthly subscription?

Any help or feedback much appreciated.

Hello, My name is Sajjad and I will be assisting you.

I understand your concern. Just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public user-to-user support forum. We're users just like you helping other users. We do not work for Microsoft and have no access to any user account so there is nothing we can do or check from within the forum.

I would suggest checking your Outlook Storage again in OneDrive in the link below to see if you have enough space to send or receive emails:

    https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/general...

Starting February 1, 2023 cloud storage used across Microsoft 365 apps and services will include Outlook.com attachments data and OneDrive data. For storage, your emails will be stored in the 15 GB of storage that is provided by Outlook, and any attachments will be saved to OneDrive 5 GB. If OneDrive storage exceeds the limit, you won't be able to send and receive messages through your email account.

On the other hand, have you tried it on other web browsers or devices? Were they the same?

In the meantime, you can also check this article which is related to your problem:

    Warm Regards,

I see a lot of this type of problem (running out of storage space) since Feb 1, 2023. I don't work for Microsoft so I have no idea if this is a bug or intentional. What I do know is this is either greed or dumb decision making at the company. Suddenly a lot of users can no longer send/receive email and they don't even know the cause (ie. Outlook attachments and inline images total size counts towards the lesser 5 GB limit).
