Hi,
I have a free hotmail account (15 GB storage limit) and am within this storage limit. I also have a Ondrive account (comes automatically with your hotmail account). The storage capacity is 5GB and is unused.
A few weeks ago this empty Onedrive account became full, because my Outlook attachments popped up there and instantly took my storage capacity to over the 5GB limit (twice as much).
Since then I haven't been able to receive or send emails at all, even though my hotmail storage is well within the storage limit.
Technical support at Microsoft claim that there is a bug that their engineers have been trying to fix. Not sure though this is accurate, as I've read nothing about it in the news. On Microsoft's website they say they changed storage rules in Feb 2023, so that Onedrive automatically captures your hotmail storage capacity as well. Effectively, this is a reduction of your hotmail storage capacity from 15GB to 5GB. Pay up or delete your emails is what this is about.
Anyone else facing this problem? Any ideas what is really causing this? A technical bug or an attempt by Microsoft to force hotmail account holders to pay a monthly subscription?

Yes, but at least its a simple process to un sync photos so that your google drive doesn't fill up from phone photos. this is not possible with Onedrive.
Gmail isn't necessarily the answer either as my Gmail is doing the exact same thing. It backs up the photos on my phone. Once full they also limit email access until you pay for more storage. My sister just went through this same mess with Gmail/Google, said she doesn't have time to mess with it and paid to get more storage.
I now have blocked email through Hotmail and Gmail.
My Dad is having the same issues. It's Microsoft trying to push their paid storage services. If I were anyone experiencing this issue that Microsoft created on their own, I would switch to Gmail or your preferred alternative and never look back. This is absolutely criminal business practices.
Blackmail is the right word for it.

I had to pay to unblock my account, but am looking at other providers.
Can you migrate all your email folders to Gmail?
Yes, exact same problem, 7gb of a 15gb email account blocked as I have suddenly gone over my onedrive limit by 1gb. I am quickly migrating to Gmail. Its a con to blackmail people into paying to unblock their accounts.
