Outlook for Mac not opening or downloading attachments

Hi there,

my Outlook for Mac does not download or open any attachments.

The issue persists with various file types such as jpeg, xls, pdf.

The workaround with downloading the files and opening them from the finder does not work, as I am unable to save the attachments. I do see the attachments by name and icon (e.g. Apple Preview PDF icon)

macOS and Outlook are up-to-date:

macOS Version: 12.5

Outlook Version:16.64

The issue appeared on my newly installed Macbook Air M2 with macOS Monterey. On the old Macbook Pro before I did not encounter this issue.

As is, I just cannot work with an Email client not opening attachments. Thanks in advance for any solution.

Best regards,

ste_si

*** Update: Seems to be caused by the "new Outlook". Going back to the legacy Version solves the issue, everything works fine. Anyone else experiencing this issue? ***

Just had this issue crop up - July 2023 - I tried the various options mentioned over this long thread, including most recently the option within accounts to 'reset' the account via the 3 dot menu option at the bottom of the accounts list. That did NOT work for me. I finally did what I view as the nuclear option, and (instead of the 3 dots, but same location under the accounts) deleted my email account, and then re-added it. That finally did resolve the issue.

Hi - I am currently having the same issue. The only work around that I have found to personally work and have not yet seen on this thread is by taking the email out of outlook (i.e. dragging and dropping onto your desktop) and opening the email via saved desktop link. Once opened, your attachments will be at the bottom of the email and can be dragged/dropped onto your desktop, opened, and saved. Hope this help!!

I didn't even have to reinstall. Just switched to legacy and then back to the new version, and it worked fine again...
