Why is an IMAP Inbox Only Displaying 10,000 Items When There are Many More Emails on the Server?

I have an IMAP email account that is hosted by AOL Mail, which I download into Outlook 365. The AOL Account has emails going as far back as 2015, and until recently all of those emails were visible (and searchable) through Outlook. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that I could no longer search for emails going back farther than 6 months ago. Those emails are still on the AOL server; I can see them if I use AOL's webmail interface (which is pretty mediocre). But they are no longer downloading into my IMAP inbox. Indeed, at the bottom of the inbox it now says I have 10,000 items.

                                     [!\[\](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/40c12e9d-b5a2-4a30-8bc4-4503de01cbbc?platform=QnA

That's the maximum. If I delete say 100 emails, another 100 emails will download from the AOL server but the downloading will stop when I hit 10,000. (When new emails download from the account, older emails are deleted so I'm just about always at 10,000 items). The full set of emails remains on the AOL server.
In my IMAP Account Settings for this email account, I have the "Keep Mail offline" setting pushed all the way to the right at "All".
[!\\ I can't find any setting in Outlook that limits the number of emails. Nor does there appear to be any setting in the AOL account that limits 3rd party IMAP mailboxes to only 10,000 items (at least not one that I can find). New emails are downloading and syncing with the AOL server, so my connection settings appear to be correct.
Is there some kind of Registry setting that is limiting the number of items that will load into this email inbox? I used to have access to all of the emails that were on the AOL server. Is there any way to get that back? One last note. I deleted the AOL account from Inbox, rebooted and then reinstalled the AOL account. It still only downloaded 10,000 items in the IMAP inbox. Also I'm using the most recent version of Outlook 365.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e4efa42d-54c3-4fa7-b54a-ae7d93efb421?platform=QnA)](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/40c12e9d-b5a2-4a30-8bc4-4503de01cbbc?platform=QnA)

    Got it.

Really strange, I have one less total message and one more unread message compared to what the app shows. It showed complete a few times. The first time I shut outlook down and started it up again, another time I hit F9. I think it might have started at least once on its own after declaring it complete, and got some more.

OK, just picked something up; total matches, outlook has one more unread.

Considering that it often doesn't sync (I have to shut down/restart to get fresh emails), I guess it's par for the course. I declare it complete and maybe in a day or so I'll set it on my new computer (giving time in case the old one gets messed up).

    Just hope it's permanent.

Someone has already replied, and I can confirm - no Aid4Mail s/w is needed and no app password change required, nor did I have to create a new account or change any settings on the existing account except for the IMAP server address. It is all there under File, Account Settings, Change. And I already have 44000+ emails in the Inbox and counting

Use 2010 w/ AOL and can access settings directly through Outlook. I have run through the steps below but haven't implemented as I do use an app password currently. I may have it saved, but had assumed a new app PW could be generated at any time, so maybe not. It does seem others have had success on the Apple forum and here w/ getting a new one, but Yahoo still claiming no resolution just a day ago, makes me hesitant.

    https://old.reddit.com/r/yahoo/comments/vmqwue/app_password/ :

    Outlook Steps to Access Server:

    Click File

    Click Accounts Settings

Email Tab - Double Click Name

Dialog box opens "Internet Email Settings"

    Server Information:

    Incoming

    Outgoing

    Log on Info:

    User Name & Password.

In the above scenario - seems you should be able to just add 'export.' in front:

    **export.**imap.aol.com  instead of  imap.aol.com (current)

In the Advanced window, port is currently 993 for the incoming server and from Daniel's link - the port remains the same.

Finally, even if this solution is temporary? as alluded to below, it may give users time to copy, archive, folder emails. I can still search 'all mail items' in my Outlook Data file, for which I have a separate Inbox, 2nd .pst, to call up older emails.

If the IMAP path works, by all means go for it and use it. But I’d wager that that path too will become

restricted to 10,000 messages as what appear deliberate changes are rolled out throughout the VerizonYahoo servers.

Thanks to all who put their shoulder to moving this wheel, especially AG522 and BDSolomon for the latest posts.

I just changed my Outlook 365 Incoming Server to - export.imap.mail.yahoo.com . That did the trick. I did not have to delete anything or perform any other feats of derring-do.

    Thank you for your post!

Has anyone tried just changing the incoming mail server in Outlook directly

    from imap.aol.com to the new export.imap.aol.com  ?

I have AOL, but just mentioning.

I have read several posts regarding disruptions for generating new app passwords on reddit - rendering 3rd party mailboxes unusable. I assume a new app password would need to be generated with any changes made to an existing account?

App passwords are currently unavailable for Yahoo Mail accounts. Rest assured, you can still access your mail from the Yahoo Mail app or via a web browser. The change is temporary but there is no definite timeline for when it will be reverted. Existing app passwords still function and are not affected by this change. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
