I like to open unread emails in a new window vs the email window. It sometimes works by double clicking but not very often. Is there a trick I'm missing?

If you right click the attachment, there should be an option to open within the desktop app (or similar wording).

no such selection available in outlook settings
Agreed. Does it work if the clicks are much faster? (Too fast really) I find it works sometimes but not others.
