Also, if anyone is experiencing this issue, the workaround is to click New Email and paste the old email into it, instead of clicking Reply. This causes Windows Outlook to remove the references header altogether.

Btw... the person who wrote to copy and paste the email into a new email. Sorry but doesn't work. I resent the same invoice over and over again, then tried to send it without the invoice. Seems the emails without the invoice PDF attachment sent fine but not with the PDF which was only 1MB.

Here's what I did and I don't seem to have the problem anymore.

    • I deleted and reinstalled the email account. - no changes
    • I changed my wrap lines to 50 - no changes
    • I logged in to my mail server for the domain account in question and tried to send the email through there.... Success! but very inconvenient.
    • I then called MS and had them on the phone remoting my PC for 1.5hrs. After this time we did multiple tests. trying to send emails . The Rep reverted my wrap lines back to 76. We did another Repair MSOffice from Add/Remove Apps in PC's settings. Did more tests. Suddenly amongst all these test, one of those things worked as the problem never came back after me being affected for a week with the error which was very annoying.

The MS support Rep also mentioned that the only thing we didn't try was to create a new profile. It was the only thing we didn't try.

    Good Luck!

Perhaps your issue was triggered for different reasons. In my case if I have a long email chain, I can trigger this error by hitting reply even after removing all attachments and the message body. So I know it's the references header not being adequately split.

It maybe not will be the absolut answer, but in my case, I erase any character from the header like:" ( / - _ | @ \ * [ { ] }" and that let me send the message correctly.

Copy and paste all the emails from below doesn't help me either.

I hope this help all of you.

How are you accessing the headers to delete those characters?
