My Outlook inbox is suddenly getting a ton of spam and I don't know how to stop it

Is there a way to get off the mailing list that is selling my email address to all these spam companies ?

That would be much easier than going through each and every email and either unsubscribing and blocking. As soon as I do that another company appears to replace it !!

I have just received over 500 spam emails from US, China, Europe - just random everywhere…. I am unsubscribing, blocking and moving to junk for days now. But all that happens is that another company spams me.

It’s obvious that I am on some sort of mailing list and they just sell to another group of companies and I get dumped hundreds of new emails. So I cannot forever doing the above process for each individual email continuously, only to be sold to another list of companies: how can I get myself of the original mailing list itself ? This is seriously upsetting me !!

Doesn’t matter how many messages you unsubscribe to, block and then junk…., I just realised it’s a forever problem as the mailing list with my details will just be sold onto another list of companies - FOREVER !!!

I just need to get off the mailing list?

How do you find out what list you are on… and then request to be removed from the list to be sold on ???

Else, it is literally a FOREVER problem 😖

OK so heres a good update. Don't ask me how but I finally got onto a chat from the help desk at MS.

They remoted in to my PC to see if they could fix the issue, changing settings and blocking certain words which is all pretty much everything we have all already done and of course no change.

So what they concluded is that my email address has been supplied by a third party, possibly via a shopping site, competition site or the like I have signed up to, to spammers. They suggested I find that webpage and unsubscribe, which is like finding a needle in a haystack.

So i thought maybe another way is to look at the coding in the back of the email and attempt to identify the original sending IP address and then work how how to block that.

Only thing is I am not IT literate enough to understand how work out who/what IP address this is. Any advice on how to find out and how to block would be great.

The issue appears to be with Microsoft's spam heuristics algorithm. Often spam seems to bypass their filters. I assume either they have an "I'm too busy, just let it pass" rule, or there is something in specific emails that seems to break their algorithm.

I have downloaded all the spam emails from my paid hotmail.com inbox and uploaded them to several open-source IMAP filters, and they picked up and filtered 100% of the emails that the Microsoft filter passed into my inbox. The spam score in each case was REALLY HIGH.

Some examples passed into my Hotmail inbox:

• Emails purportedly to be from Microsoft but with <no sender address>, saying "your device is under attack, all your files will be deleted"
• Various Antivirus emails telling me my subscription has lapsed

I have a friend who works for Microsoft and he said it's a running joke inside the company about how poor their spam filter has become. It used to be pretty much watertight.

Come on MS, realise there is a problem, and FIX IT!!!
