My Outlook inbox is suddenly getting a ton of spam and I don't know how to stop it

Last week, my personal Outlook email started getting ~50 spam emails per day. I barely ever use this email address, so I am not sure how or why this began to happen. How can I stop all of this spam from getting to my inbox?

I have been flagging all of the emails as spam, but it doesn't seem to be stopping the influx of emails I am getting.

Thnaks Dan. No, I did not find a solution. I think I may be forced to abandon my Hotmail account and migrate to a new account. I am not a "happy camper". I would think that microsoft could come up with a fix.

Thanks for the info! I tried this and it *seemed* to have helped. I'm getting far fewer spam emails in my inbox. I can't be totally sure that's what did it, but everyone should certainly try it, and report back. I have also been diligently reporting everything as junk or phishing. I've found over the years that eventually the spam filter learns, but I've never had it this intense until recently.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have tried this, however I kept on receiving multiple junk emails.

So I returned to the settings to find the boxes were unticked. So I ticked them once more. Clicked save, closed the screen. To double check the settings had been saved I went back into the junk settings and bam, the box was unticked.

I went this through process a couple more times and every time after ticking the boxes and saving the settings, they would automatically return to being unticked.

Extremely annoying and giving me more reason to make the switch to another email provider

I was right. It was a Microsoft breech issue, at least for the spam that was coming from @outlook.com accounts, which was my main issue.

Article explains how hackers were able to bypass security measures and create millions of Microsoft accounts and sell them to spammers.

Incidentally, my spam from these accounts has tailed off. Just getting regular spam that mostly goes to spam folder.
