My Outlook inbox is suddenly getting a ton of spam and I don't know how to stop it

Last week, my personal Outlook email started getting ~50 spam emails per day. I barely ever use this email address, so I am not sure how or why this began to happen. How can I stop all of this spam from getting to my inbox?

I have been flagging all of the emails as spam, but it doesn't seem to be stopping the influx of emails I am getting.

There is clearly a major issue with outlook/hotmail. I block an email address and immediately get 3 more junk/spam emails. This is no coincidence as it happens all the time. I have stopped blocking them or reporting them as I only get more. Had my hotmail account for 25 years but will be moving if this doesn't improve. Shouldn't have to deal with hundreds of junk/spam emails everyday which any good email host would filter out as they are obviously spam.

Did anyone ever get a reasonable response this problem, I am having the same issue, it seems to of happened the day after i used my email address on a well know government website in the UK. I have 3 Microsoft accounts and one 1 of these accounts are getting spammed daily from around 30 -50 per day. I have also went from the block and report which seen the email come back 3 fold every time i done it. So now i have gone from just delete without opening.

I have had this address for many many years and never had this issue, I don't really wish to change address as use this for my every day account but its looking more and more likely.

If anyone got answer on how to fix this issue please let me know.

Nothing can be done Dougierl. No fix for this and as you have already found out, reporting the spam only triples/quadruples the amount you get.

Best just to delete and it will subside over a few months. I have tried this over the last couple of years with 3 separate email accounts (MS) and the only way is to just delete them. Microsoft are of no use whatsoever and really don't care in the slightest. To be honest, I think that when you report a spam email, they then sell your email on and that is why you end up getting lots more after reporting.... Being cynical but if the explanation fits??

Thanks @deansturgess. You would like to think a company like @Microsoft would be trying to actively resolve this issue.

This problem has been somewhat resolved for me, after I cleaned out almost every domain added to my trusted domains. I still get like a bazillion spammails, but now they end up in the trash at least, and not in the priority inbox.
