Hi,
Normally my Outlook links open in my default browser Chrome.
Today they started to open in Edge even though Chrome is still the default browser.
How do I get them to open in Chrome again?
I am using Windows 11 with the Outlook app.

Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments

This is a new feature in OUTLOOK and has nothing to do with the default apps in the OS settings.
Go to Outlook Options > Advanced > Link Handling > "Open hyperlinks from Outlook in:" > Select "Default Browser".
This only works if you are not using the "New Outlook". There is a toggle in the upper right of the outlook screen that allows you to turn off the new outlook. Once that is done you have access to the File, Options, Advanced menu that will allow you to change the option to open links in the default browser.
MS is forcing everyone that is using the new Outlook to also use Edge to open all their links, and I find that extremely annoying!
As a data point, they recently did the same thing in Teams.
I'd also say there is some precedent with them being interested in monopolizing software products (Internet Explorer / Windows lawsuit ~ 2001). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft_Corp.
I'd appreciate it if they (either by choice or by force) took some of the Microsoft out of Microsoft products, honestly. At least let me choose what apps to install on my machine (instead of MS Store pushing garbage onto my computers without permission). As a sysadmin, I'd pay a premium to have the ability to just provide my users an OS free of the consumer nonsense that gets smeared all over an otherwise good product. It's gotten a bit better over time but things like Solitare, LinkedIN and so on are present per profile for every computer I admin, and so I either have to scrub this stuff off with a powershell script (which may or may not be enough) or I have to go in and delete things manually. Never mind that neither method works for Edge, which is baked-in to the OS (similar to the 2001 lawsuit claims).
So yes, I think there's ample evidence that Microsoft is monopolistic at heart.
I'm tempted to reach out to a class action attorney about Microsoft's monopolistic practice here......Microsoft's own operating system permits setting the default browser, having a secondary hidden option added to Outlook that overrides that default is certainly anti-competitive. As an attorney, this is a shocking abuse of monopolistic power.
Microsoft sucks. Did European Commission is sleeping? Why no one asks question on this ? Why Microsoft doesn't respect user preference?
