Can't Generate 3rd Party App Password (AOL) for Outlook 2016 Desktop using Windows 11

I have been using Outlook 2016 Desktop for Windows for quite awhile to access my AOL - (Verizon.net) emails. Just recently, I can't sync my AOL emails to my Outlook 2016 Desktop app. I can not generate an app password via AOL in order to sync and download my new emails to Outlook. I have contacted AOL several times and they are NO help at all. How can I generate a 3rd Party App password to make my outlook work as before? Any ideas/solutions on how to get around this issue?

P.S. I am using Outlook 2016 Desktop (Windows 11), not Outlook 365 or Outlook.com app.

I just came across this - I've been using Thunderbird for a while, but generally use Mailspring.

Thunderbird just works - but Mailspring needs an app password - but in the AOL settings, it just says that app password generator is not available at this time.

Completely a meaningless 'IDGAF' kind of response - I think they just don't know/care... so I think best just not bother with AOL.

I tried disabling 2 factor auth... and created new password... no joy. I imagine the account is "stuck" with the app password. Anyone else tried this?

I have had the same issue, and was told by AOL tech support on Monday -- to log in from desktop and phone at least twice a day, so that "they" know which your primary devices are. It should start to work - eventually. I thought this was a useless answer, but had no better idea how to fix it. And, as of today - 4 days later - I can generate passwords. It may be coincidence, or not, but wanted to pass along. Tech support is aware of the issue, but no one is giving them estimates on when it will be fixed, or anything at all to share with customers. I've never liked AOL - but, I like my verizon email - so I'm stuck with them. HTH someone else.

I logged into my AOL email via the web today, then I saw this message so I logged back in and tried to generate a password and it worked!!! I generated 3 extra passwords to use in case I need them and the generator gets finicky.

    Thanks for the tip!

Really glad it helped someone else. Appreciate the suggestion to generate some extra ones, and save them somewhere, for future use!
