Can't Generate 3rd Party App Password (AOL) for Outlook 2016 Desktop using Windows 11

I have been using Outlook 2016 Desktop for Windows for quite awhile to access my AOL - (Verizon.net) emails. Just recently, I can't sync my AOL emails to my Outlook 2016 Desktop app. I can not generate an app password via AOL in order to sync and download my new emails to Outlook. I have contacted AOL several times and they are NO help at all. How can I generate a 3rd Party App password to make my outlook work as before? Any ideas/solutions on how to get around this issue?

P.S. I am using Outlook 2016 Desktop (Windows 11), not Outlook 365 or Outlook.com app.

We should vote with our feet and leave AOL. there are other email providers out there that use Pop3 https://www.lifewire.com/top-free-pop3-and-imap-email-services-1171482

make sure you can log into the AOL web email. I am going to try ZOHO. slowly switch over companies that have ur Verizon email to ZOHO, then finally friends and family, keep monitoring ur verizon/aol email till the day you only get spam...then C'YA AOL. I had AOL dial up a long time ago then switched because of their shenanigans.

I called AOL's tech support and got someone that could barely speak English. They told me not to use an incognito browser. i asked what that was , knowing fully what it meant, they could not explain what it was and were just reading from a script. I tried signing into Edge but I am signed in as my hotmail account I clicked on add another account and i tried, it would not accept my AOL WEB password b/c it is off site, i would need the app password to create a new account in Edge, same for Chrome too.

Yup ... I noticed that when you get that constant popup in outlook asking for username and password, that means that you lost your connection to the AOL server. You need to generate a new password in order to reconnect. Been through that process many times! And like everyone else has commented ... AOL/Yahoo Customer Service is USELESS!!!

I have a problem with my email account, after a few months I get a constant popup in outlook asking for username and password. I then have to get a new password and that system does not work. Support is telling me that you have to keep logging in every day until their system "trusts" your computer, then it will generate a password. Sounds like BS and the agent kept trying to sell me a monthly fee for a desktop app. I just want outlook to work.

Yeah, I think tech support fed you a big juicy helping of BS. If it was a priority, it wouldn't be going on for 9 months. They don't care. I'd bet my next paycheck that this is completely deliberate on the part of AOL/Yahoo. If you are checking your email via a third party app, you aren't being exposed to the click through advertising. It all comes down to profit.

I have had my AOL email address since 1992 and in the past 15 years, they have systematically stripped away any benefits....including tech support for non-paying users. I was a paying subscriber for a lot of years beyond what I needed to be but that doesn't factor into the equation. Two years ago, in an act of desperation, I became a paid subscriber in an attempt to fix a serious, reoccurring issue with my email. I had access to tech support but they weren't much help. I knew more than they did so it was a complete waste of my time and money.

Because I have had the same email address for 30 years now, I have been reluctant to give it up. I have finally hit my threshold and I am done with AOL/Yahoo.

I ran into this issue today too, and I was able to get a phone number out of their chat system of 1-800-984-6207 and option 6 for Tech Support the women on the phone (who has to keep checking with others) That this is a known issue and they are aware of it and it is because of an top level technical upgrade or update they are doing but there is no ETA on when it will be fixed. She informed me the best course of action may be to just keep trying it at different times throughout the day to see if it is working. She was not able to get the rest of the info for me but it seems their site nor does their support offer a way to export the mailbox so it can then be transferred and put into Outlook or something.

So maybe if we all call their Tech Support and complain about it, it will get them to do something about it?
