I went back to classic Outlook. If anyone wants to do this - Option 1. doesn't work, at least for me. go to step 2.
here are a few methods to switch back:
outlook.exe in one of these places (may vary slightly depending on edition):
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\PreferencesRemember that the New Outlook and Classic Outlook can coexist, and you can even run them concurrently. Choose the method that best suits your preference and work requirements! 📧📆
THAT IS FALSE!
I CANNOT set rules for a gmail account.
It tells me that rules are not supported
there is no rules option in the right click menu for my gmail account
PLEASE RESTORE THE OLD FUNCTIONALITY!
I'm seeing many, many messages about 'RULES'. I have long ago sorted things out. My initial problem was when I started with Microsoft 365 family after getting anew PC. The e-mail program (poor excuse for Outlook) was a bare-bones system. I could send and receive e-mails but that was about all I could do. There was no place to set folders or anywhere to find 'CONTACTS'. The Outlook I had on my WIN 10 machine was far superior to what I was presented with. Right now, all is good. I have access to everything but it came after I contacted support at Microsoft and eventually, everything got sorted out. My question is: Why was the e-mail program that I initially got stuck with after installing Microsoft 365 so poor!
Anyway, all good now.

Thanks - I stand corrected. For some reason I cannot find the rules option when i right-click. I'm 100% ceratin I saw it earlier this morning and manually ran the rule successfully. I'm mystified.
