Today I received an email from Microsoft saying

Security alert
We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account ed**___@___.___. When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.

I've changed logged in, went through the security checks, and I've changed my password, but now when I try to log in, it tells me

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later. The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.

I'm on a Mac, and I can't access it through the Mail app, nor through a web browser. I've cleared the cache, I've restarted both the app and the browsers and the computer, I've tried different browsers, as well as Incongito Window mode, with no luck. It works on my phone Outlook app, though. But I can't access my emails on my computer?

Any ideas? How long do I have to wait to try it again? I've allowed an hour to pass and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

    I am currently in a situation where google is forcing me to create a gmail account (which I do not want to do) in order to access my original outlook / hotmail account. I am currently on vacation in a very remote valley in Germany - and I have important emails that i need done.

    I reluctantly agree to make yet another new gmail account that i dont intend to use just to access my email. Guess what - you are trying to send an authentication code to my phone - that only has access to hotel wifi and no network signal to receive this verification code that you forced me into accepting.

    how do you plan to resolve this?

    You aren't communicating with Microsoft here. I don't plan to resolve this, but I may be able to help you resolve it.

    Your phone problem, when not in the US, is common.

    You can have a code sent to an alternate email account.

    I am still having an issue.

    When I delete the cookies mentioned above and prevent them from being allowed to work. I get trapped in a spiral where I enter my email address and my password and then it opens another tab that takes me here

    Please help. I'm a medical school and this is ruining my life.

    I think I may have inadvertantly found your answer. I decided to try and log into office365.com and that actually worked for some reason. You log into the office 365 website, look on the left side of the screen where all the apps are and find the outlook app. Click on the outlook app and it will take you to another log in window but this time it will actually work and you should just be able to log into the app no problem as I did.
