Today I received an email from Microsoft saying

Security alert
We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account ed**___@___.___. When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.

I've changed logged in, went through the security checks, and I've changed my password, but now when I try to log in, it tells me

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later. The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.

I'm on a Mac, and I can't access it through the Mail app, nor through a web browser. I've cleared the cache, I've restarted both the app and the browsers and the computer, I've tried different browsers, as well as Incongito Window mode, with no luck. It works on my phone Outlook app, though. But I can't access my emails on my computer?

Any ideas? How long do I have to wait to try it again? I've allowed an hour to pass and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

    I was able to fix this on edge by deleting all live, msn and other related Microsoft cookies. I used Ray's solution on Chrome to do it on Edge also.

    This issue came up again for me. This time the fix was to install the latest update to Windows 11, can't remember the version number but it wasn't a single patch it was one of those 22H-24 type patches (no that's not the number I don't remember the number). I usually hold off on those updates because lots of bugs are found and fixed before I actually install it on my systems. Once I ran the patch voila outlook.com magically started to work again without me changing my password or anything.

    I assume you are using Microsoft Edge as your browser.

    I cant believe I am saying this but to solve the issue of accessing a Microsoft product with a Microsoft browser try using Google Chrome to access Microsoft 365. It works without any problem.

    This seems to be caused by their "Modern Authentication" protocol/system.

    When using Office Outlook 2013, this was constantly happening, mostly because Microsoft REMOVED the one update for Office 2013 that added the code for that new system. SUCKS!

    I currently am able to access my 2 Microsoft email accounts. Here's how....

    I don't use Outlook 2013 for those. I only use it for a Yahoo account, without issue.

    I haven't had the error nag problem since I've done 2 things.

    • First, on one Computer, I log into the web version of Outlook/Live.

    This issue doesn't happen.

    • Secondly, on a different computer, Windows 10, I use the Microsoft Email app.

    This issue doesn't happen and I have 3 accounts set up.

    On a 3rd computer, also Windows 10, fortunately, long ago, I got Office 2016 and kept that patched.

    On Outlook in Office 2016, I have my 3 email accounts and all work fine, without the error/nag.
