Today Nov 11, 2022 I received an email from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** with the heading Disabling TLS 1.0/1l1 for POP3 and IMAP4 on December 01, 2022. Is this real or spam?

I'd love your opinion on if I should move forward with the new computer! I REALLY DON'T LIKE CHANGE, but, I know one of these days my computer is just going to konk out. In the meantime I am moving everything onto a portable hard drive - just in case!

I'm probably the wrong person to ask - all my current computers are Dell and aside from using them for different things, I just feel real comfortable having a backup computer in case one fails. Extended downtime is not an option for me which is why I get a multi-year on-site support contract with each. Have had to use that twice over the years (different computers in each case) but even with that, you can still be down for a day or two depending on what day of the week the failure happens. (Can't speak highly enough about Dell Premium Support and I love my Dell computers)

As for having a backup using an external hard drive - I do that on a regular basis and have multiple external hard drives. Lest anyone think that external drives can't fail - think again. Over the years, I've had 2 that had to be replaced.

So with the above said, it would be safe to say, I'd be inclined to recommend going with the new computer and take your time to work through things but that's just me. Can also tell you I hate going through the process of setting up a new primary system, it's a time-consuming process to get everything working the way I want it but it may be like giving birth (not that I would know first-hand), once it's over, you forget about the process and enjoy the fruits of your labor when it's all over 😊

Hi Karl! It's been a while since I wrote an update!

I was waiting for December 1st to see whether I was going to have any issue with being able to access my hotmail account.. Good news! No problem! No problem on my desktop Dell running Windows 7, and no problem on my iPhone 8! What a relief. PHEW! All the information you gave me, with links, was exactly what I needed to do.

For my phone, you may remember, I had called Apple, and she had me delete the hotmail account, and then add it back with using Outlook. So, that's all ok too!

In the meantime, from when I last wrote, I purchased another Dell Desktop. This one runs Window 11. My old Canon printer won't be compatible with it, and my old Office 2010 won't be compatible with it either.

If I want to set up and use this computer, I would need to purchase a new printer, new inks, and a new Office Student/Home edition, so that I could still write/read Word documents, and write/read Excel spreadsheets.

So, as of now, I am still using my old Dell Desktop. I have until January to return the new Dell.

There is something though, to the idea of having a new computer, that is supported by Microsoft. Right now, even Google Chrome doesn't want to update unless I update to Windows 10. GRRRRR ...

Another retired senior weighing in here. Being somewhat adverse to change, still putting Win 7 through it paces every day. Not too concerned that Microsoft has ended support. I may regret that statement but for now I'm fat, dumb and happy.

I probably got the same message about email changes as temeculamon got but blew it off as spam. Suddenly, on 12-1-22, my email UI gets a new look - there is the "classic ribbon" at the top of the page and getting things done has changed a little. While not liking change, I can pretty much get everything done that needs to be done. Right now, the email account (.hotmail) seems to be functional without me making any changes.

Also, there is this annoying ad that shows up at the very top of my Inbox from Microsoft Outlook that wants me to sign on to Microsoft 365. It's probably great software but way more than I need. Further, I am somewhat of an anti-cloud skeptic - I'm not really a social media person or one to keep info-pics-documents on the cloud, to the extent that I can make that happen.

Finally, I rarely access email via a smart phone - loving my life as a Ludditte! The most likely situation for me to want to access email with a smart phone is if I'm traveling in another country where sitting down to a desktop or laptop is not easy to make happen.

Questions: 1) is this all going to come crashing down on me sometime soon? 2) do you think Microsoft is going to ultimately mandate a pay-to-play situation down the road? I can switch to gmail - it would be work and somewhat time consuming but it could be done.

I have these similar questions/concerns .....runnin outlook2007pro on Win7pro.

I've execued/checked the TLS setttings for Tls per the KBS articles you noted.

I do not understand what to do with the:

I presently CAN still connect/download my eMails from my outlook.com account

BUT

Cannot connect to my OFFICE365 email business account.

Do I /how do I use the Pop-Legacy.office365.com and/or imap-legacy.office365.com parameters, and what Port and security settings should I specify in the email account setup?

Does any of this affect my OneDrive account as well?
