Today Nov 11, 2022 I received an email from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** with the heading Disabling TLS 1.0/1l1 for POP3 and IMAP4 on December 01, 2022. Is this real or spam?

I received an email that read: Starting on December 01, 2022, Office 365 will begin retiring Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 for POP3 and IMAP4. TLS is a standard protocol used to provide secure web communications for POP3 and IMAP4. Pop3 and IMAP4 are the client/server protocols for receiving emails. We will enforce TS 1.2 moving forward to provide enhanced encryption and help ensure your emails are received more securely. We have already disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for most Microsoft 365 services in the worldwide environment.

WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN - December 01, 2022

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Our records show that your email account has reently been accessed with POP#/IMAP4 through TLS 1.0 or 1.1. POP3 and IMAP4 will not be able to receive emails with POP3/IMAP4 protocol after that. To continue accessing your email accoutn using POP3 or IMAP4, please upgrade/update your client support TLS1.2 Your emails will not be removed, but you cannot access them without upgrading your client. I do not have Office 365. I have an old hotmail account, that I access through Windows on a desktop computer, and also on my Apple phone. I'm at a loss of what I should do. The letter I got sent today to my email account seems to think that I have Office 365, but I don't. Is there anyone out there that can even tell me if this is a true Microsoft email that I received? And, is there a phone number or an email address that I can write to, so that I can get easy directions, or instructions on how I can continue to access my hotmail account after December 1, 2022? Thank you

    I hope you're enjoying your weekend, and taking some time off from answering all of our questions!

    I'll hold off on uninstalling the Office App, the one that I thought was 2010 Office that I have... It's like you said, it may come in handy one of these days!

    I will most likely start a new question with the "Word" experts. Thank you for letting me know that I should do that!

    Sounds like you're mastering your new machine 😊

    Wouldn't be in a rush to uninstall that <Office> app that shows up with the red icon - doesn't hurt anything and you might find it handy at some point

    As for your Word question, sounds like the default template is set to side-by-side but what I'm going to suggest is posting the question in a new thread for the Word category. There are a lot of folks here who true experts when it comes to everything related to Word and would be a far better resources to draw on (as is also the case for any of the other individual Office apps)

    And on that happy note - you have yourself a great holiday as well. - you deserve it after all the work you put into this

    Well, it's been forever since I sent you an update! I hope this message finds you well, and ready for the Holidays!

    You were correct! The Red Box kind of icon thingy is what I see -- And, I do see that it says "Office" in the list of software programs I have. I assumed it was the Office that I just uploaded from that old Office 2010 disk I had! Soooo, I was scared to uninstall it, as I thought the uninstall would take off Office 2010. Thank you for clearing that up for me!

    I haven't done that particular uninstall yet. I've been waiting to see if my Office 2010 is going to have any problems being compatible with Windows 11. So far, I'm glad to report, that all is good! PHEW!

    The only problem I am having is with Word, and I guess it's not really a problem -- Word constantly is making my word documents into side by side pages instead of one long vertical stretch of pages. I read something about having to change the world template? All I want to do is view my documents as one single page 1, and then one single page 2, and so forth. I don't like to see page 1 on the left, and page 2 on the right (hope you know what I mean). Is there a way I can change all of the documents from here on out, with how I view them, without having to go on the VIEW TAB to choose for each time I open a document? The SAVE I do, doesn't even save the view. I know how confusing it is to visualize without actually seeing what I am talking about. If I knew how to take a screen shot, and how to upload it as an attachment to this thread, I would try to do it - but, I think you know me by now, to know I don't know how to do that!

    I'm not sure if it would be accepted a 3rd time!

    I may take a wait and see approach to whether or not I should do the uninstall, and reinstall, with SP 2.

    Shouldn't ask for the key again when re-installing on the same machine but if '2010 is working for you - then you're all done

    What I can't figure out, is why 365 is still hanging around. I really did uninstall it. And, it no longer shows up in my list of programs. But, the Red Shaped kind of Square that is the logo for Office 365 (or Microsoft 365) not sure what to call it, still shows up as OFFICE. Weird, huh?

    You mean what's shown in the screenshot by any chance? That's not Microsoft 365, that lets you launch the Office on-line apps. If you don't to see it - just uninstall it

    <Settings> --> <Apps> --> <Apps & Features> --> scroll down until you find <Office> --> Uninstall
