Why does Microsoft want to charge me for Hotmail service when I have deleted almost all messages ?

I have used hotmail for free for more than ten years. Today I received a message from Microsoft telling me that I don't have enough space and I cannot send or receive messages. They say I have to pay monthly or annually to be able to do that. I have deleted almost all my messages from Hotmail, but the message is still there. I feel Microsoft is forcing me to pay for hotmail now.

    I did the same thing. You can delete pretty much everything and it will not give you access. i had to pay the monthly fee because I needed to get the ‘lots emails’ only to find out that ALL emails not delivered were sent as undeliverable and cannot be recovered.

    Did anyone get notice that they would start doing this? i have no recollection.

    Yahoo offers 1T for free.

    I also do not remember getting notice from them. I’m really upset about this whole thing.

    Delete your Bin Folder too as all deleted emails remain there for 30 days and use up storage.

    Do try and delete old attachment emails in Sent. It freed up a lot of space for me.

    Hi

    Thanks for your advice above.

    I have visibility of my storage and i have no attachements in my Inbox, or One Drive (i deleted everything that carried attachments and many folders that carried emails that i have been saving for many years). I do no want to delete my Sent items because i refer to those a lot. Also, i have deleted in bulk all my deleted items.

    What else can i do, other than buy storage?
