Cannot manually sort folders with new Outlook

Hi All

I'm loving the new Outlook, however I'm having real difficulty manually sorting my email folders.

Clicking & dragging the folder, only allows me to drop the folder INTO another folder, but doesn't allow me to drop it in between other folders (meaning I cannot re-arrange / sort the folders manually).

Right clicking the folder and clicking "Move", again only allows me to move the folder INTO another folder. There is no "move up or down" option unfortunately.

It is currently sorting my folders in alphabetical order, but I wish to change this. I have been through all the settings and cannot find anywhere I can manually sort my email folders.

Can anyone assist?

Thank you

Thomas

I have been searching for an answer to this problem when I stumbled upon this support article which suggests it is possible to re-order mail folders in the new Outlook - Change the order of folders in the Folder Pane in Outlook - Microsoft Support

The "Custom folder order" doesn't exist, of course, so not only is there a basic function missing in new Outlook, but the support information is incorrect!

If you're desperate to make it work for the time being, I found that modifying the name of the folder to include a number at the beginning of the name seems to sort it in numerical order. If it doesn't work initially, I found that moving the folder you just renamed into another folder and then moving it back to the main area "resets" it and allows it to sort by the number you just added.

Microsoft, please fix this! I'm excited to work with the new outlook, but I need to be able to control my folders.

Thank you for the proper work around

Good idea. But if you add an additional folder, you need to renumber everything. Also, Why are we expected to waste precious time numbering and renumbering folders? This was a simple feature in the old version of Outlook. Why has it not been implemented in the new version. And in particular, since we have all been begging for this fix for over 18 months.

Absolutely embarrassing that this a) wasn't included to begin with and b) hasn't been fixed in over a year. Completely, utterly, embarrassing. The only helpful advice in that page of text and pictures was "go back to old outlook," which speaks volumes about the state of a product that is aggressively pushed with daily popups and other unasked-for reminders. You know full well that literally millions of forum posts and feedback checkboxes are meaningless when compared to an ivory tower UI "expert" thinking that the basic feature we are used to clashes with their vision. This isn't a request for a new feature, it's not a suggestion for something creative, it's literally a reminder to you that the design team that you don't know, don't have any influence on, and yet are are paid to represent somehow dropped an idiotically basic element for managing folders. Your by-the-book chipper attitude and platitudes are patronizing and might be nice if somebody is asking for something new, but just add insult to injury when the product that we are forced to use (yes, forced, by the IT department that spends huge money on office 365) is deliberately broken. The amount of word-bending that you use to avoid acknowledging that there is problem and make it sound like a "cool idea" that would be super helpful to future users is masterful. I can only imagine how you would spin a bug that deletes all my email as a feature that didn't exist in old outlook, and how changing it would be a "neat suggestion" that I should give feedback on. Great.

To bump this crucial issue please - my workplace is switching off the old Outlook this week and it will make my life very difficult if I can't re-order the folders - thanks.
