My primary email account is with Optimum Online. I have an Outlook account, which I needed to set-up the computer, but have never used it for email. What happens in my case is that whenever I attempt to email, the preview wizard (i.e. Try New Outlook) automatically takes me to New Outlook, which is set-up for the Outlook account, rather than the Optimum account I actually use. I can't toggle the preview wizard off. When I try to toggle it, it takes me to "Welcome to New Outlook", which is precisely what I don't want.

Within New Outlook, it shows under my Outlook account, that I have also have an Optimum Online account (and shows the correct email address). However, when I attempt to add the Optimum account, New Outlook insists that either the account doesn't exist or that I have entered the address incorrectly. I simply clicked on the address they already had which was correct! Neither will the system allow me to sign in using my PIN. When I abort the "Add Account" process (which is a dead end), the wizard "helpfully" takes me to a screen that will allow me to SET-UP Outlook 2016. Given the fact that it was already set-up and has been working fine for years, this is utterly maddening!!! I want access to my old account. As it is, this rollout preview has rendered me incommunicado as far as email at the height of the holiday season. I can't email, nor can I place orders that require the use of my email address. What a total trainwreck! I want absolutely nothing to do with New Outlook! It has saddled me with a major problem at exactly a point in time when I need things to smoothly and efficiently.

There's another issue here as well when you think about the bigger picture. Think about what this process did. This "preview" automatically set-up users into a proprietary Outlook email platform. Simultaneously, it effectively closed them out of competing email platforms as a result of a broken "add account" function. I paid my Optimum bill today and asked if others were experiencing the same problem -- they were. While I'm not a lawyer, I don't see how this debacle doesn't end up in court.

My approach now is to build some redundancy into my personal use of IT, a bit like having two bank accounts and two credit cards so that if one route stops working then I have an alternative. I was forced onto the new Outlook when I changed my laptop recently for a Windows 11 system as my 10 year old laptop was struggling. As I have a Yahoo account from about 20 years ago, I have downloaded the Yahoo mail app from the Amazon store to give access to my other email providers which works OK. I am keeping Outlook for my Hotmail account until Microsoft sorts these problems out over the next couple of years.

I'm having same issue. I can add other accounts, but not ***@outlook.com. The account is used without problems in Mail, but yesterday Mail stopped sending mail ((

I have users on my company facing challenges to add their microsoft email accounts on to the new outlook. I also have an issue with the new outlook where most users see the toggle to revert back and others do not have that toggle. There is so many bugs with the new outlook!!!
