Using older versions of Outlook for Mac in business environments
After update to 16.73 Outlook for Mac, Yahoo mail keeps re-syncing and reloading. Changes made in Outlook AND Yahoo are not syncing.
Prior to this update, I had no issue with Outlook for Mac and Yahoo. I just updated to 16.73 (23051401). After updating, I had many problems with the Yahoo mail from within Outlook. It worked for the first 15 minutes, then got login errors and IMAP errors. I deleted the Yahoo account from Outlook and then quit. I then went back to Yahoo and got a new app password. I restarted Outlook and added the new app password obtained from Yahoo. It worked for the first 15 minutes then started to suddenly empty out all emails in all folders. Then the emails would eventually re-sync and reload from Yahoo. This now happens constantly. I tried the same uninstall reinstall process again, and nothing changed. Now also changes I make within Yahoo via my browser are not reflected in Outlook and changes made to Yahoo mail within Outlook are not saved when the emails clear, res-sync and reload, and they are not reflected in Yahoo online either. It's stuck in a loop. New emails DO ARRIVE and get added to the loop. Also there is a constant attempt to recreate the basic Yahoo folders: Drafts, Archive, Junk, Bulk. I get error messages saying can't be installed because they already exist - which they do! Why is it trying to reinstall them as if it is a new connection with Yahoo?
My setup is the following using OUTLOOK for MAC - BUT NOT NEW OUTLOOK. New Outlook does not support all the folders I have created over the years for organization and am unwilling to lose. I have a 16 inch MBPro M1 Max chip. Running Monterey 12.6.5.
AS a side note, I have for the past year or more had problems where white-listing emails does not work. Outlook is putting emails of people I email with regularly into SPAM. I whitelisted many of them, but Outlook is ignoring the classification and still putting those emails into SPAM.

2024-02-11T00:44:59+00:00 I prefer the classic or so called legacy version of Outlook. I have tried the New Outlook and don't like it. It still has many construction sites and currently does not suit my workflow. Having said that it's been a few months since I tried it and there have probably been improvements. About the version. Yesterday I completely removed Outlook and downloaded the latest version from the 365 site and installed it. Before opening it MS Updater alerted me that a new version was available so I installed it. The well known problem occured soon after opening the fresh installation and trying to use it. I removed Outlook after that and therefore can't give you the exact version other than to say it was the latest version as of yesterday.
Surprisingly, when I opened Outlook the first time it prompted me to setup my first account. and in this instance Yahoo accepted my Yahoo browser password without prompting me for an app password. I installed only my Yahoo account and planned to use only that for a while. I was again surprised to find that Outlook, on its own, installed my other accounts (iCloud, gMail and Outlook) without me initiating it. My conclusion from this is that either the uninstall, for which I used AppCleaner, Hasel and CrapCleaner did not remove all of Outlook or Outlook keeps a copy on OneDrive or Outlook's own MS cloud which manages such removals in case the app was removed by mistake.
I will look into completely removing Outlook and see if I can get a clean install.

2024-02-10T20:19:11+00:00 Bdublya,
Are you on the "classic" outlook for Mac or the "new" outlook? If classic, can you please specify what version?
Most of us have tried new app passwords, and they haven't worked.
Thanks!

2024-02-10T01:07:06+00:00 This did not work for me. I don't use third party passwords except the ones Apple generates. Yahoo requires an app password to work in Outlook. I deleted my Yahoo account in Outlook as well as the app password for Yahoo I was using. When reinstalling Yahoo in Outlook one is taken to a Yahoo interface that requests ones email account and password. If you use the Yahoo password you use to normally log into Yahoo in a browser it requests you to generate an Outlook specific password. Having done that the account was installed, all Yahoo folders were installed and the inbox downloaded. I deleted a few emails and then Outlook, as usual emptied folders, attempted to sync, tried creating inbox and other folder thst exist and I was back to the old problem. It's unbelievable that MS has not been able to fix this since May 2023! I now use Thunderbird - after trying quite a few other app clients. It required a few add-ons experiments to get the functions to suit my workflow but it is very customisable and is the best replacement I have found so far.
I also x-ed (Twittered) @satyanadella about the problem and provided the link to this thread but no surprise I got no response. I did get a few likes and even a few followers which indicates a lot of people have this problem! Maybe if members of this thread can get the tweet to trend we can get the boss' attention. Good luck to all of us!
