Will there be a way to continue using Windows mail instead of the new Outlook?

I keep seeing that Outlook is supposed to take over Windows Mail as the default mail app. But will the Windows Mail app still be available to use? I do not want to be forced to use Outlook. When I tried the preview, it had ads that I thought were my actual mail, and the app I find is just too busy overall. I don't want a bunch of stuff in the way of me reading my email. Windows Mail is simple, I like the interface, it's not too busy, and my mail is prominent within the window.

Edit 2025:
I got tired of the shenanigans and switched to Wino Mail app. I will likely switch to Linux OS in the future as MS is starting to go off the rails.

Hello Skeleton! My name is Jeremy and I’m happy to help you with your question.

Although Outlook will be the new default mail app, you can still change your default mail app back to Windows Mail and use Windows mail.

I understand your concern and appreciate your viewpoint so when the time comes do not worry you will still be able to use Windows Mail.

This change is referring to what apps are shipped with Windows 11 not that the apps will no longer work for old users.

Regards,

First you have to disable the new Outlook. There are several ways to do this. The easiest way is to use the method described here: https://github.com/matej137/OutlookRemover. Download the Zip file. Inside you will find a file called outlook.bat. Right click and select, "run as administrator". That will remove the new outlook. Please also read the "readme" file before doing anything.

After the new outlook is removed, go to the Windows store and download the Windows mail and calendar app. Now you should be able to open and use it without any problems. However I don't know what the future of the old mail app will be in 2025.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

    Chris

I hope someone eventually sues and wins a case against Microsoft for Harassment and forcing clients to buy and use something they don't want. Brainwashing with stupid features that some idiot invented. If I paid for the software, I certainly don't want someone to change it and impose things I don't want. Microsoft is a waste of time. Constant struggle to set something up. I constantly have to find and disable something. Even if I can disable a feature I don't want, it's extremely complicated and hidden in some submenu. What can I say but it's terrible what they do to these poor people. They are brainwashing them. It's a whole science of how to annoy someone for days until they accept it. You bug them every day, 365 days a year. Try, try, try. Buy, buy, buy. I hope the court will install a simple and super-strong command for them. And that command is "I don't want it" and an end to the repetitions and harassment.

    Nudge ..

Nudges is a persuasion technology that they have turned into a harassment technology until you accept it. They have removed the option to say "no." You are only allowed to postpone the agony. All of us who complain have turned into addicts. We spend time fixing and adapting something we paid for. We lose an enormous amount of time because of such harassment policies that Microsoft enforces. We are not even aware of what we have become.

Windows 11 and all the harassment forced me to buy another pc, this time not a Windows . Everything I work now, I use Mac. I finally got a break from the message to secure my account and add a phone number for security. I've closed that message a million times and it came back a million times. If nothing changes on that front, I will never buy a computer with a Windows operating system again.

I agree it is harassment. Although I will never bow to the apple and its deceptions.

I agree. On the other hand, I have noticed that Outlook 365 works better on a Mac than on a Dell XPS computer. Everything opens without errors. I don't have to worry about my emails not arriving. I don't have to think about whether I turned off the computer before putting it in the bag. Everything just works perfectly. Though it is a bit boring because there are no problems that will waste my time, which I have been wasting for years on a Windows computer. I don't have to reinstall the computer every 2 months. It's silent when running, has an amazing battery. I have simply transferred all the important stuff to the Mac.
