I was hacked and I’ve tried recovering multiple times now. I’m using a familiar device. I put in old passwords. My recovery email and phone number are no longer attached to the account. I don’t get why Microsoft can’t revert the account to its original state of creation. I need to get this email back. Too many account with it and I can’t switch half of them off it without the email.

I have had a similar problem to all of you, and I managed to escalate my case to the Tier 3 support.

    Unfortunately, they responded with

"Account security is a top priority at Microsoft, and we have a team dedicated to investigating and validating fraudulent activity. The account and billing activity associated with your Microsoft account was thoroughly reviewed by our fraud team, and I can confirm there was unauthorized access to your account. Unfortunately, during the investigation process, we found that your security information has been changed.

Unfortunately, when security features are updated on an account, we are unable to assist with an account recovery as these types of updates and/or removal are completely out of control of customer service. We are unable to make any changes to the security information on the account due to security protocols set up and the acceptance of the Microsoft Services Agreement when the account was created.

The only option we have is to permanently suspend this account to prevent any further use. At this time, I have successfully suspended this account, and this will remain on indefinitely.

A couple of things to note regarding the account suspension:

If you use this account for Minecraft, we regret to inform you that the Minecraft portion of the account is also unable to be recovered and the game will need to be re-purchased on a new account. We understand that this is not the news that you wanted to hear and apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

In the event that you have files stored in OneDrive, unfortunately those files are no longer accessible after account suspension and are subsequently unable to be recovered due to encryption; even our engineers do not have standing access to the files. We know that this is not the ideal outcome in terms of your stored files, but please be assured that this is necessary for the privacy of your data and to ensure that it does not end up in the wrong hands permanently. We appreciate your understanding regarding these unfortunate circumstances."

Basically, Microsoft took me through a month-long wild goose chase to tell me recovery was impossible. It should be possible in this situation to use the ACSR form and a security information update followed by the reinstatement form to recover my account, but (because the hacker changed all of my security information) the AI that filters the ACSR form prevents the ACSR team from ever seeing my forms. Additionally, Microsoft has replied to all of my subsequent emails with what is essentially a copy of the original message. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

What a shambolic mess. My father is in the same boat as everyone else and is in a panic because he is expecting very important emails from solicitors regarding the sale of his house and cannot get into his account.

I've been with him and watched him fill out the information on the recovery process - which is 100% correct - and it still fails. 4 days on, numerous attempts and he has nowhere to turn.

According to the following page on the Microsoft website the only option for him now is to create a new account. This is absolutely absurd. Lets just say he won't be creating a Microsoft account if it comes to this. They should be utterly ashamed.

Subject: Unable to Change or Recover Password - Requesting Assistance

    Dear Microsoft Account Support,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to seek assistance with an issue I am experiencing regarding my Microsoft account. I am currently unable to change or recover my password due to the following message: "You've requested too many codes today. Please try again tomorrow."

I understand the security measures in place to protect accounts, but I am concerned as I have not made excessive attempts to request codes. This issue has persisted despite waiting for the designated time period to pass.

As my Microsoft account is integral to my work and personal use, it is imperative that I regain access as soon as possible. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or support you can provide to resolve this matter promptly.

Please let me know what steps I can take to rectify this situation or if there are any additional details you require from my end.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt assistance.

    Best regards,
