I have multiple emails that are the same except for a slight change on the end (eg emailaddressone, emailaddresstwo) on New Outlook, I can't distinguish them. Is there a way to change the display name of email accounts and also change the order at which they show up in the list?

funny thhing is that You can download Outlook app for android....and you can make display name right away.... So when I send from notebook it will show only my email address but if I send from phone ..there is nice display name ...

I agree with you, New Outlook without basic function and if you go back to old outlook you cant send email becuase New outlook is free, and Old Outlook need license and doesnt work until you pay...what a ****
Same here...as I can't find a way to rename these horrible email addresses used as account names, I'll be using Thunderbird too.
Microsoft have tried to shove "New Outlook" down to our throat since each time I've been starting "Mail for Windows" (which DOES work far better, and you can actually change the displayed account name) Mail App is now shutting down and instead the Mail app starts in "New Outlook" mode -of course without asking.
While the "new outlook" toggle was still appearing, I gave feedback to Microsoft dozens of times reporting the loss of functionality. Did they bother to fix it? Of course not! So Thunderbird it is for me till they start respecting their customers.
The instructions the advisor gave are for Outlook 365, not New Outlook.
I notice that the old Outlook is still on my list in the start menu. I just uninstalled the "New Outlook" and will be using the old one. It's been over an entire year of this issue and they have not bothered to do anything about it at all. I'm literally paying them money every month to have 365 and this is ridiculous. I sure as heck hope there is no "New Word" and so on coming in the near future.
