right click paste suddenly stopped working in outlook email

Normally I can use my mouse to highlight, copy and paste text and URL's from just about anywhere (files on my computer or online) and paste into the body of an email in outlook - have been doing this without any issue for more than five years.

Now, suddenly and without any changes made by me and without any obvious explanation -or solution- I can only copy and paste ONE time after a fresh sign in. Thereafter I cannot copy and paste with my mouse - when I attempt to, a different window opens, it has a paste option in the menu but it does nothing other than close the window.

I can paste with the mouse in the to, cc and subject fields as usual / normal - only the body of the email is affected.

I can paste into the body of the email from the keyboard with Ctr-V - please don't answer with that as the solution - it isn't, it's an alternative.

I am looking to fix the mouse problem - it is how I work and want to continue to work.

Thanks

p.s. Instructions here suggest inserting a screen shot - made two, tried inserting / uploading here but ... that appears not to work either - I don't see any screen shots here do you ?

Same problem for me using Firefox, but no such problem using chrome

Same thing - I can paste when in MS Edge, but not Firefox. If I refresh, I can then paste. Very annoying.

    Dear Noel Belton

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you!

First of all, we apologize for the trouble caused to your work! Based on your description, I still need to gather more information to better help you in order to narrow down the problem:

    • Whether you are using outlook desktop client or OWA, if you are using outlook desktop client, please kindly try logging in to OWA (Outlook web app) with your account to check if you are getting similar errors in Outlook on the web. If you are experiencing problems with OWA, please try clearing the cache of the browser you are using to check the results, if it still does not work, then please try using a different browser and log in to your account in privacy mode (incognito mode) to check the results.
    • Please also kindly check if your Outlook Desktop Client is updated to the latest version? If not, then check the results after updating.
    • Are you sure you are not experiencing similar issues in other products of Office? For example, a Teams client or a web version?
    • If it is convenient then please change to another device to check the results, because we need to rule out that the problem is related to Outlook Desktop Client or OWA or your computer?
    • What's your account type?(business account/outlook.com/hotmail.com/imap account/pop account) If you are not sure, please kindly give me your link which you are using OWA(outlook web app). Such as https://outlook.office.com or https://outlook.live.com
    • I did not receive your screenshot, if you cannot successfully upload it to the main post, then please try to share the screenshot with me in a private message, thank you.
      • For your reference:

After getting your information, I will do more research and testing to help you better, thank you.

Thanks in advance for your understanding! Your patience and cooperation will be highly appreciated. Hope you all the best!

    Sincerely,

Kerry Chen | Microsoft Community Moderator

Solution found by a colleague who clicked on paste and instead of the window closing and doing nothing, it triggered a prompt window that says "outlook, com want to see text and images copied to the clipboard" along with "Allow" and "Block" Buttons ( I have no recollection of seeing this prompt nor did it appear when I attempted to paste, not even after restarting the computer) I guess one can click allow OR click on the lock icon to the left of the outlook URL and turn on Clipboard in permissions- problem solved.

Now the only question is why did this even happen at all, since I didn't change any permissions ?
