How to get rid of a new tab on Outlook upper tool bar stating: Try the new Outlook. It recently popped up & replaced my "delete" tab, which is now inside the scroll down menu.

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For business

Edited to add: Note that the registry key applies only to classic Outlook desktop software (2016, 2019, 2021, Outlook in Microsoft Office 365 software). It does not work for Windows Mail.

Hello Dennis

You're talking about the button in my screenshot? It's not a toolbar but you can hide it using a registry key -

Image

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
DWORD: HideNewOutlookToggle
Value: 1

Start typing regedit on the start menu and when the Registry Editor comes up, open it.

Browse to the path, right click on the right side and choose New > DWORD. Paste HideNewOutlookToggle, press enter then right click on it and choose modified and choose modify. change 0 to 1. \

Restart Outlook.

Edited to add: I have a ready-to-use registry key in my article at Use Classic Outlook, not New Outlook (slipstick.com)

you can't hide. it keeps coming back...

... i've been hearing some good things about eM client. do you know anything about this one?

    Hi FrankieH:

I haven't tried eM Client myself, but eM Client and Thunderbird are both recommended by Susan Bradley, manager of the AskWoody.com website - see Susan's comments in astro46's Thunderbird to Replace Outlook in that forum. Just be aware that the free edition of eM Client is limited to a maximum two accounts. For a review of both products see Nick Lafferty's 28-May-2024 7 Best Email Clients For Windows: Free and Paid.

When you say that you can't hide the "Try the new Outlook" toggle switch does that mean that you applied Diane Poremsky's 12-Feb-2023 HideNewOutlookToggle registry edit posted <here> on page 1 of this topic and the toggle switch still appears in Outlook? If so please post back and let us know your Windows OS and the Outlook edition you use (e.g., Microsoft 365, the MS Outlook bundled with Microsoft Office Home and Business 2021 Click-to-Run, etc.).

NOTE: Diane Poremsky's registry edit is intended for "classic" Outlook users - see Diane's detailed instructions on the slipstick.com site at Use Classic Outlook, not New Outlook if you require further assistance. If you are using a different Microsoft email client like the Mail and Calendar app that ships with Windows see the 10-Feb-2024 Neowin article The old Windows Mail app is working again, but not for long.
