How to change download destination in "New Outlook" (May 2023)

I recently switched over to try the "New Outlook". In the older layout version of Outlook, when downloading an attachment I had multiple options on how that attachment could be saved to my computer. The main option I utilized was simply " Save As". In the "New Outlook" version, that option is no longer there. Is there a way to customize the options you see when downloading an attachment? Here are the options it gives:

  • Preview

-Edit in Browser

-Edit in Excel desktop app (it was an excel file in this case)

-Save to OneDrive

-Download

The old options would have:

-Preview

-Open

-Quick Print

-Save As

Save All Attachments

-Upload

-Remove Attachment

-Copy

-Select All

Really looking for the "Save As" option so I can navigate to the final destination folder.

    I don't have the option to print the attachment in New Outlook (they should have remembered how well New Coke did). These are the only options I see when I right-click on the attachment or click the dropdown on the attachment (this only applies to Office programs; things like PDFs only give the options of Preview and Save to OneDrive.)

    • Preview
    • Edit in Browser
    • Edit in Word desktop app
    • View in OneDrive

    If I open the attachment in Preview, there are no options except Save to OneDrive.

    I can print the email itself, but it doesn't have the attachment obviously.

    Drag and drop (my favorite way of saving attachments) doesn't work at all.

    LOVE "...just a few hundred easy clicks away!"

    Unfortunately this design scourge is not unique to MS; I often wonder whether dev teams consider how many clicks are required for the user to accomplish something. Do they inhabit our world, or do they live in an alternate reality, where these things just don't matter?

    When programmers handed in their new Outlook app to upper management, they were all, "Everything in the New Outlook is just a few hundred easy clicks away!"

    Edge had this problem, too. It was fixed after about 3 years.

    For now, you can revert to the classic outlook app by clicking a toggle in the upper right corner that says "New Outlook". When you click the toggle, it will switch you back to classic outlook, and it will ask you why you're leaving new outlook. You can leave your comment there before switching. Switching back takes just a few seconds, and all the functionality you're used to will be back.

    I absolutely agree. This "new" outlook is terrible.

    Causing me grief and a massive amount of extra keystrokes and wasted time.

    I can't save a file to a specific folder, and I DO NOT USE OneDrive - NOR DO I WISH TO BEGIN.

    Downloading and then having me move the file to my specific folder is time wasting.

    emails no longer show up as clickable links in the bodies of the emails and my customers and clients are not happy about this either.

    I'll be finding an alternative.
