Today ads started showing up at the top of my Outlook.com Inbox. They look like emails but I can't delete or block them. In the past ads did show up on the right had side and I could live with that but I don't want them at the top of my Inbox.
I want important emails at the top of my inbox not ads. And don't tell me that this is because I have a free account. My google email account is free and it puts all ads where they belong under a Promotions tab where I can ignore them.
How do I correct this?

I hear ya! The ads recently started showing up in my inbox. They look like an email but when I click to delete it, the mail opens. Outlook must think they are pretty slick. In fact, I make it a point to NEVER EVER respond to an ad such as this....NEVER!
Did anyone find a solution to this that doesn't involve using an ad blocker or switching to gmail? I have been in touch with customer support and have had 3 emails back so far - none of which seem to understand the issue. The last one suggested I just delete the ads!
That's a pretty sad commentary on Microsoft. Having unwanted ads show up in an inbox does not sound like a real complicated concept to understand. It may be complicated to fix, but not so much to simply understand.
Microsoft knows exactly what is going on. Contrary to popular belief they will not abandon email ad’s to your inbox. This is a revenue producing practice. Just imagine the number of unintended clicks they get by people forgetting or not knowing the top email is really an ad. The revenue for all these clicks must be enormous. I don’t want another ad blocker, so I have trained myself to delete the ad email first before answering business and personal emails.
Well I guess that is the end of outlook
