I switched to the new outlook and it is no longer showing the total number of emails in each folder.

Move the mouse cursor on the folder you will see the count mail.

It isn't wholly unusable; it is unnecessarily inconvenient for managing multiple folders at the same time. In old outlook you can customize per folder whether you display total or unread messages at each level.

I thought about switching to the New Outlook for a second because of a feature that doesn't exist in the Old Outlook, but does in Mobile: Declining an event still shows up in the Calendar as a Declined Event if you decline on Mobile, but not on Old Outlook. Apparently, it also works this way in New Outlook.

So I opened up New Outlook (which I previously dismissed for lacking features I can't remember which) and tried to replicate my Favorites setup and immediately ran into this issue that I couldn't figure out how to find Properties for the option to show the number of emails in a (search) folder...

Pretty annoying that new features are being added to the New Outlook but the older features aren't even there, am I supposed to use both New & Old to access all the features...? Seems like it's been 2 years and New Outlook still hasn't caught up to the Old one's basic features...

Ditto to what's been said already...and...this was a problem with the MAC New Outlook rollout back in October of 2020. It's been solved for MAC users, albeit not satisfactorily: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/inbox-email-count-in-new-outlook-for-mac/4b1d2cd7-1978-4a6c-9480-bf2706812300
